^ toris, I'll let you answer for yourself, but since I agreed with you about McCartney III, let me just say I'm not comparing it to anything the Beatles did. I compare it to Paul's past solo works. When Winter Comes sounds like it could have been on Flaming Pie to me.
Anyway, the album just doesn't "blow my dress up" as the saying goes.Hey, I love that expression. I'm discovering it. It really makes sense in this sentence. Otherwise I'll join you on the idea

Overall, this album just doesn't do much for me. I don't dislike it -- except for Deep Deep Feeling, which I'd be perfectly happy to never hear again -- but nothing here rises to the level of Paul's greatest material to my ears. That said, I like Women and Wives, Seize the Day, Slidin' (when I'm in the mood for something loud and raucus) and When Winter Comes. There's a poignancy to When Winter Comes that feels like it fits the state of the world right now.

Wow! Looks like you have a grudge against "Deep Deep Deep Feeling". I don't know what that song did to you. But it sounds like something.
Except that it's a bit long, I think it's a really deep song. At least as far as the lyrics are concerned. -

Except that it's a bit long, I think it's a really deep song. At least as far as the lyrics are concerned.I find it boring, repetitive and shallow. It prattles on about having deep deep feelings but never actually conveys any. There's more actual emotion in any given 30 seconds of Maybe I'm Amazed than in the entire half hour of Deep Deep Feeling (I guess it's actually shorter than that, but it sure feels like half an hour).

I have a different take on "Deep, Deep Feeling". At first, it was my least favorite track on the album and it was definitely too long. I also didn't initially like the "Oh Hey" parts of the background singing. I think I know what Paul was going for...like a soul groove, but I found those parts kind of artificial or fake. But as I heard the song a few more times, Paul's "music", as it often does, magically took over. When I got to the 3 minute mark, I started really loving the piano chords followed by Paul's electric guitar playing. The lyrics then almost became secondary. By around the 7 minute mark, the song on those subsequent listens, seemed to go by much faster . I also got to like the false ending at the end where Paul ties it all together on his acoustic guitar.
Unlike some here, I find McCartney 3 to be a very good album. Specifically, the 3 extended jam- like tracks (the opener, Deep Deep Feeling, and Deep Down) have grown with me especially on headphones when you hear Paul's brilliant bass so much better. By nature, these kind of jam songs are repetitive and often lacking in lyrical content but they give McCartney 3 that great "home made effect" that kind of separates it from many other Paul albums. I'm not saying it is better than his last 2 albums (Egypt Station and New) but it is different. Yes, I like Paul's traditional 3 minute style songs the "most" (e.g. Find My Way,Seize the Day, Women and Wives, The Kiss of Venus etc) where they have discerning middle's or bridges, but "Deep Deep Feeling" is a totally different type of song. in my opinion, it is hard to compare it to Paul's more traditional style songs. While "Deep Deep Feeling is repetitive because of the extended groove of the music, I don't find them "shallow" at all. In my opinion, it's all part of the overall feel of the album. I think McCartney 3 is a great and unique Paul album precisely because it is more of a true album rather than just a collection of songs like Pipes of Peace and Off the Ground. Those albums had some great individual songs but as a whole, I never felt they were "true" albums in the strict sense of the word. Just my opinon and to each their own.

Well I totally agree with you. Even if "Deep Deep Deep Feeling" and "Deep donw" are a bit long. I find that there is some research in sound and structure. It's very interesting to listen to.
In fact it's the play of texture that I like in these two songs and the alternation between the voice, the instrumental parts and the atmosphere that evolves throughout. This is what gives a particular charm to this album.
In my opinion.

I think McCartney III stands up as it's own album. It does not sound like the I-am-doing-a-contract - obligation ... like some groups that have duds and quick fillers.
I get a kick out of Paul doing all or most of the instruments as he did with 1 and 2. There is an appreciation for all the tracks and work required. I started liking and understanding that Deep Deep feeling ...the low pounding background instrument...I like that at 78, he didn't decide to spend all his days reclined in the recliner watching television, reading the paper, and sawing wood and then waking up to some loud show that he didn't start off watching.
I like that he stayed with songs of now and that he reached back and pulled a few of them to the view of being new.
I think it was a good gift to his fans and those he wants to gain as fans. I like that he stayed active and sharp by playing the collection of parts.
I like the many songs and not just a few singles or EP.I am playing this album more than Egyptian Station. It could be the timing and the pandemic combination. I also have been doing things while listening and it goes welll while doing so. I have done my own multitrack of instruments (no where as well or as close to this) which is why my appreciation- knowing what it takes. I like the fun songs and then the lyrical combination on a few too.
perhaps I didn't receive the album as a rattled critic who wants to pound down the artist. I am a fan that sometimes has the rose colored ear pieces and speakers (not rose colored glasses).
my opinion only... I enjoy it and that is what matters to me. -

I love all the tracks on the album.

My favourites are Find My Way , Lavatory Lil , and When Winter comes .
A couple of thoughts ... I think the album is generally very well recorded , but .... the first track has a very warm bombastic drum sound . When Find my way (which i really like ) comes in , the snare sounds like its coming through headphones in comparison - really thin, quiet and tinny . I thought he would have went for more continuity with the drum sound . Any one else notice that ?
Secondly , When winter comes is absolutley CLASSIC McCartney . Fantastic melody and chords - lovely structure . What on earth possessed him to leave it off Flaming Pie ?!
