BJ Conlee

I hate to say this and I hope it is not an overreaction, but I think something may have happened to long time poster BJ Conlee. From time-to-time BJ would not post on this board for a bit and that was not concerning to me because he would mention he was stepping away for a while. In 2022, we exchanged email addresses to "chat" with each other about our upcoming vacations, especially Alaska. We did not want to bore other members about our trips in public posts. BJ requested I update him in October about my California coast trip and to send him some pictures. I did that and he replied back that he loved them and was glad I had great time. He mentioned he might not post on the board for a bit but would catch up with me during the holidays. (Thanksgiving, Christmas)
Once the "new" Maccaboard was up and running, myself and another board member sent him emails on what to do if he had troubles getting to this forum due to the changes. Neither one of us got a reply back from him. I sent him a couple of emails wishing him and his family well over the holidays. The last one was sent on Dec 29th and never received a reply. I never met BJ personally but over the many years on this board he seemed to be very nice guy and not the type of person who would not reply to several emails. I also know there was no technical issue because when there is a problem, you get a message about email not being delivered.
I hope I am wrong, and all is ok, and it will be hard to know for sure unless he contacts us. I don't post daily but usually check the board every few days. If he posts something, I would appreciate somebody sending me a PM. Thanks in advance.

@yankeefan2 I’m the other boardie who emailed BJ and received no reply. I HAVE met him in person at Abbey Road On The River probably in 2017 or 2018 and he was nice enough to buy me dinner twice! I’m going to PM a Mod and see if they can try emailing him too. They were able to get in contact with Kestrel, but unfortunately he has not returned here since the big change.

I just sent one more email to BJ. Unless his wife checks his gmail account, I guess we’ll never know what happened.
I just found his Facebook page but he hasn’t posted in it since 2019. It is under Bernie Conlee. His photo is he and his wife with dark hair. Sent a message.

Damn, I hope he's okay. He always seemed like a really agreeable guy.
-
I also FB messaged him and one of his daughters (he has 2 but I don’t know her married name - this girl was Carolyn Conlee) His wife, Pam Conlee is on FB and has photo of their wedding as her background picture, but she hasn’t posted since July 31, 2020.
Should I message her too? I haven’t heard back from Carolyn. -
This post is deleted! -
I hope he's doing well. I don't know BJ conlee well. But he helped me a lot with the other form members when I arrived in August 2020. I really like the comments he used to leave. It was always well constructed and fun to read. He seemed like a good person. I sincerely hope something bad didn't happen to him.

Thanks for all you have done Nancy, I appreciate it. I sent him a FB "Friend request" and will not be shocked if there is no reply but thought I would give it a shot. If you have the time, the more people you can send a message asking about him the better chance of finding out something. At this point, there is not much else we can do but hope for the best.

@yankeefan2 I am trying to friend Pam Conlee on FB and I also sent her a message. Nothing else to do unless you know the exact city in FL he lives in and we call the police there.
-
@yankeefan2 I could find out online but it would cost $27.08. They tell you EVERYTHING about the person!
Just trying to find an obituary which shouldn’t be that hard! -
I think we have done all you can do (FB, emails etc.) so we will just wait. I thought about checking obits but did not want to be morbid - lol. There are so many things that could cause him not to reply to emails. He could be really sick and not even looking at them. A family member could be having health or personal problems and he does not have time to deal with social media. I don't think we should spend money on trying to find out information or try to contact the police. I believe he lives in Tampa but not 100% positive. Maybe we will hear something soon, if not it was not due to a lack of effort. Thanks again Nancy!!

@yankeefan2 I got on a free 14-day trial with my heritage.com and found no record of his death. I know how old he is and what year he was born, so that narrowed it down!
-
@yankeefan2 Calico (Mod) has emailed him too.
-
I just got email from BJ and he said he sent you one also. It seems like he does not check his emails on a regular basis and after seeing you sent him one he did search and found out I sent him several. I am sorry I worried a few people for nothing, BJ had always replied to me fairly promptly. In addition, he told me he would get back to me over the holidays. I guess this is a lesson learned and I will keep in mind if somebody does not reply back for a while they may be ok. The important thing is he and family are well. Once again, my apologies for pushing the "panic" button. His not replying back just seemed out of character.
-
@yankeefan2 OMG! That is such great news! Tell him he scared the you know what out of us!
-
Now I can cancel that 14-day trial I got searching for his obituary!

No one should feel guilty about worrying about people you care about. From time to time I get curious about folks from my past that I've lost track of and start searching online, and twice now I've had real shocks: Someone I went to college with committed suicide about 5 years ago, and one of my best friends in high school was killed in a bicycle accident in 2009, at the age of 52. You never know what can happen, and I personally think that caring, and acting on it, is better than not caring.

Thanks for the support Bruce. I was so glad to get an email from BJ today! He said his wife is going to help him get back on here/change his password. Hope they can figure it out okay! If not, call the nearest teenager!

You’re welcome! Just glad it had a happy outcome.
P.S. Found out through my sleuthing the city he lives in, but it’s near Tampa. I used to drive through there in 1974 from Atlanta to visit a boyfriend south of there in Tarpon Springs. (Yeah, when you’re 19 you do stupid things like get involved with a guy while you’re on vacation who lives way far away!) -
Just want everyone to know that I’m ok. I apologize t0 everybody especially Yankeefan and Nancy R.
They were the only Boardies who had my email address and they both had sent me emails and I failed to get back to them. That started the whole chain of worriment. I never saw their emails mainly because my email category is a mess because of my failure to read and delete emails on a daily basis. Felt so bad I created a whole lot of worry to them. I only caught Nancy’s email on Friday because I checked my email for that day. It got me thinking that I might had missed previous Yankeefan’s emails and I surely did. I immediately emailed both of them so they would know that I’m ok. Sorry for giving many people anxiety. A lesson well leaned as I begin to fix my email section.Glad I’m back on the new Maccaboard. Not so “good” for many as I will start Posting on various Maccaboard subjects. Thanks!
