Great points as usual Yankeefan. It's crazy to think that I'm more obsessed with this subject than Paul himself is. Thank God I have an understanding and patient wife. Thanks for responding this late. -

Besides not having any songs from FITD, how can Paul have so many good songs not on any of his past compilations including Pure McCartney.
Let's use our "Starter CD" for "Flip Sides and Deep Cuts" as an example:-
My Old Friend - great song never on any Paul compilation
-
Goodbye - This is a tricky one. Paul actually wrote this song for Mary Hopkin while he was still a Beatle. It might be a legal problem. This is no problem for Paul McCartney. Just take it out and substitute a great rocker like "The Mess". This B-Side for the "My Love" Single has never been on any Paul compilation.
-
Thank You Darling - great little Paul and Linda Duet and never on any compilation.
-
That Was Me - Great little Deep Cut; never on any compilation.
-
A Love For You - another great rocker never on any Paul compilation. It gets relegated to the "In-Laws" Soundtrack.
6.Daytime Nighttime Suffering - This is the lone exception. Paul actually put it on Wingspan.
-
Waterspout - Has never been released by Paul
-
On the Wings of a Nightingale - Paul's Demo has never been released; never on any compilation.
-
Yvonne's the One - Has never been released.
-
Loveliest Thing - Only been released on the very large Archive Edition of FITD. Never on any compilation.
-
Back On My Feet - B- Side of "Once Upon a Long Ago. Never on any Compilation.
-
Love Come Tumbling Down - Never on any compilation
-
Flying To My Home - Never on any compilation
Do I need to go on? All the songs on our "Starter CD" for "Flip Sides and Deep Cuts" need to be available on an Affordable and Inexpensive CD for fans to buy.
I don't care whether we call it "Flip Sides and Deep Cuts" or "Leftovers and Rarities". Paul owns all these songs. Just release this "Starter CD" so average people/consumers can buy it!
What's the worse thing that can happen? More people/fans can get to know these good to great hidden gems that have never been available at a low cost before.

Hey Nancy. I'm now 74! At around 9:30 or 10pm is when I get sleepy so for me, it's definitely late.
Hope you're doing better. Even though the weather been beautiful this week in Florida...cooler with beautiful breezes etc. I've been in a rut mentally lately. We're traveling to NJ in a couple of weeks so that usually gets me much more upbeat. Going into a new area and seeing different things normally helps a lot. We have to get our condo totally ready for our renter by early June. -
I usually go to bed a little after midnight so that was not late for me. Like my wife, I worked nights for too many years to be in bed early -lol.

We're traveling to NJ in a couple of weeks so that usually gets me much more upbeat. Going into a new area and seeing different things normally helps a lot. We have to get our condo totally ready for our renter by early June.I’ll be 68 in one week, but I’m a night owl. Up until 4am and sleep until noon.
I’m okay physically, but mentally not so good due to my mom’s worsening dementia. I get anxious and sad. I am taking her up to Pittsburgh to see my 80 year-old cousin who is in a nursing home. We’re just going May 20-23. Mom can still take care of herself - showering, dressing, etc. - and can do her laundry, but it’s her memory that’s bad. I have an in-house company give her AM/PM meds. I call her to remind her to go to lunch & dinner, but sometimes she’s already in the dining room. She doesn’t need reminding to go to breakfast - maybe because she is so hungry? -
I don’t think a new album is rushed necessarily. Paul has said that he writes a song a week. So over the course of more than two years, there should be enough really good material for him to record. And in addition to that, at the beginning of the year he already said he was recording in the studio and was looking forward to doing even more so. Therefore I think it is very well possible for him to release a new album this year. I am also convinced that with all his experience and craftmanship he can put out an excellent album that will not be a let down after the previous albums. And the voice is a given and I think one should judge a new album based on the fact that it is a 80 year old man and try not to compare it with his voice of 30 years ago. Personally I’m not bothered by his voice. I still love it and what he can do with it. This is based on Who cares and Slidin’ for example on which I think he sounds really good. I am really looking forward to anything he puts out, just to hear a fresh Macca song in 2023 (or whenever) and see where his creativity leads him and us. It’s actually unbelievable to me that we can still expect new music this far in his life and career. And off course I would also like all his unknown gems to be generaly known hits, so that everyone appreciates him like we do!

Thanks for all info on "Hot Hits and Cold Cuts". Only living in the US, I don't recall hearing anything about "Hot Hits and Cold Cuts"
If you have the time, what was the track list going to be for that possible album? I would think there were plenty of rumors. Thanks -

ThanksThe good news is that Paul is aware of all this unreleased material and its quality and wants to get it out. I think the Archive Collection is the vehicle for doing that. I don't mind the songs being spread out over multiple releases as long as its the same format and mastering, then I can just assemble a collection myself. The problem is we're still waiting for tracks that were supposed to be released on an LP 40 years ago. That's the point of frustration for me. And I'm afraid time is running out on the CD format.

Dennis...loved your post. Don't get me wrong, if his new album is ready in December of this year, I will be thrilled. It tells me that in Paul's mind, it is ready. I will have every confidence in the world that he is satisfied..I have less confidence in Paul's Setlist choices. I remember when McCartney 3 was released. Yankeefan and I (and I'm sure you too) loved the album as a whole.
When it came time for Paul and Band to Tour again, we on Maccaboard were guessing how many McCartney 3 Songs would Paul add to his Setlist. Several of us were predicting 3, 4 or even 5 additions from McCartney 3. As a big time Macca fan, it took me weeks to get over my disappointment. Amazingly, Paul " only" added ""Women and Wives" on that big tour. It's another good song but, in my opinion, it's probably the 5th or 6th best song on McCartney 3. My question is...How could this be? It made me further ask...Isn't Paul really proud of this new Album. In my opinion, he should be!
In retrospect, playing the best 5 Songs(Find My Way, Slidin, Seize the Day, Kiss of Venus and When Winter Comes) would have given a tremendous new spike for McCartney 3 Sales. With all the fans attending the Show, I doubt any of them went out and bought McCartney 3 after hearing only Women and Wives. But if they heard 5 or 6 from the album and liked them, it would probably motivate many to buy a copy from Amazon or whoever.
In my opinion, a very missed opportunity for Paul. Paul was asked that very same question and his reply was something, if I did more from McCartney 3, what songs do I take out? Are you kidding me? I doubt any big Beatles fan would have been walking out of the concert saying "why didn't he play "In Spite of All the Danger" or "For the Benefit of Mr. Kite. As far as I am concerned, he should have replaced "Helter Skelter" with "Slidin"...this new song is that good.
Think of that scenario I just laid out. Playing these best songs from his new album might have changed
Many fans minds about Paul's Solo Music in general Think also about how many "videos would have reached the Internet with Paul and his great Band playing these songs. I still shake my head with Paul's response. One thing I know...Paul isn't lazy or one to rest on his laurels. It's just a blind spot he has. He just too fixated on his Beatles' Career and doesn't value his Post Beatles career nearly as much as he should. Just my opinion. -
Paul's setlist choices have been mind blowing over the years. He could have added two more "McCartney III" songs by replacing "Dance Tonight" and "Queenie Eye". Pretty simple move without cutting "beloved" (lol) Beatle songs. Does anybody think the "Beatle fan"" crowd would miss either of those songs even if they knew them - ha ha. I really was shocked that he did not play "Find My Way" which I thought was as good a pop song as any he has written in decades. It was so good IMO, I thought it would be good opener or at the very least the 2nd song in the set list.
It has been mentioned before and I will do it again, why the heck did they not sell "McCartney III" CD's at his concerts? For example, if you go to Broadway show you can buy the original cast album of the show. It was kind of sad that when Paul first started touring as a solo act he would play 5-6 songs from his recent album and now he played one as you mentioned. In 1989-90 tour he actually opened show with "Figure of Eight" from FITD.
I will add one last thing speaking as a guy who was in a band that played bars when he was a teenager to mid 20's. I enjoyed playing new songs when we had a "gig" and not the same old thing performance after performance. You would think Paul and his band would have wanted to play 4-5 "McCartney III" songs just to do something different instead of songs they have play hundreds of times. Sadly, that boat has sailed - lol
-
Thank you for your response! I agree with you in terms of setlist choices… I also think he can play some different songs without messing with the ‘Beatles core’ of the setlist. I was also convinced he would play more of Mc3, but unfortunately that was not the case. And so when Glastonbury came and they announced that the setlist would be changed up, again I was excited and thought this time he would really give us something new. Off course it still didn’t happen. Too bad, even though it didnt stop me from really enjoying the concert His show is made for the majority of the people that attend his shows and I don’t think he will change that any time soon. Maybe someday, when the soundcheck songs are released, we can enjoy the songs that we hardcore fans really enjoy
-
Soundchecks are not going to give us live versions of great songs like "Little Willow", "Take It Away", "That Was Me" and many others from solo albums that Paul sadly ignored. I could care less about some unreleased song that Paul played on a soundcheck when there are so many great songs that he never played that were actually on his albums. Too late now, Paul is 80.
-
Thats true off course, although we do have live versions of That was me. The soundcheck recordings are one of the few possibilities to hear songs being performed live that we’ve never heard live before. I recall Paul saying that he was going to put out an album with these soundcheck songs, but that has yet to come.
-
Yep, "That Was Me" was done in Paris show, not sure how many others if any. The shame was that it was not done for at least one entire tour. Like BJ's compilation, album of soundcheck songs are very down the list by MPL in projects to be done.

"One thing I know...Paul isn't lazy or one to rest on his laurels. It's just a blind spot he has. He just too fixated on his Beatles' Career and doesn't value his Post Beatles career nearly as much as he should. Just my opinion."
The question is why he is fixated on his "Beatle" career. My goodness, millions of people all over the world still think they are great 53 years after they broke up. The Beatles legacy does not need to be promoted after all this time. What person who likes the Beatles and or just Paul does not know who wrote what with the Beatles at this point in time. In other words, he is getting his share of the credit with the Beatle success. It is kind of sad in a way that Paul gives the impression to music fans that he peaked musically in 1970. Remember awhile back Paul was asked to name his favorite song he has done this century and he could not answer the question. That is almost borderline pathetic that he has so little esteem for his songs the last 20 years. You and I would have answered that question with at least 5 -10 songs off the top of our head.
There is no excuse for Paul not playing his solo music live more often, so he is 100% to blame if people don't value his solo music. More times than I can count, we have said Paul can satisfy the first timers with over 20 Beatle songs and still showcase his solo music. It comes down to the choices he makes which usually makes you shake your head. In another post, I listed two solo songs he could have cut very easily to play a couple of new "McCartney III" songs. Ever notice when Paul plays a new solo song live, he never says anything to the audience about the song besides saying "this is a new song".
Finally, Paul is 80 and is not going to change. To do some of the things we would have loved he would have had to done them when he first started touring again in 2001. He had not toured in almost a decade and had almost a brand-new touring band. This was the time to really embrace his solo career because there were no expectations about his show. Unfortunately (IMO), he took very hard turn with making the set list very Beatle heavy and never looked back. Oh well.

At 80 I'm surprised he can remember the lyrics to the newer songs. Even at 67 I was struggling the other day to remember She's Leaving Home. I can remember all the right words, but not necessarily in the right order.

If he was younger he could do the "songs we don't normally
do live," tour. Here is my choice of set list. Take It Away. Getting Closer. Long Haired Lady. Monkberry Moon Delight. Big Barn Bed. Love Awake. Only One More Kiss. 3 Legs. Smile Away. Red Rose Speedway medley. You Gave Me The Answer. Beware My Love. ALL of the AR Medley. Obladi Oblada. Maxwell Silver Hammer. She's Leaving Home. Press. Off The Ground. Good Times Coming. Mamunia. Goodnight Tonight. Sweet Sweet Memories. Young Boy. Invite Denny Laine at this point, on stage, to do Children Children. They could do Medicine Jar, even though I think it was a Jimmy Mucky, song.
