Was William Shatner that good? This guy sounded to me more like a Frank Sinatra type. off to find shatner...

Matt Monro was a singer with a beautiful voice. Had many hit songs in Britain and Australia. "Who the f*** is Matt Monro?" Look him up! It's not ALL about the USA!

This is the only Beatles song I could find Shatner singing.

Even if you had never heard of him for his music, surely you've listened to Paul's Unplugged album?

Nobody Beats Captain Kirk Monroe started singing off Yesterday in the Shatner style. Back on topic, It seems that Monroe was also signed to EMI so it makes sence that The Beatles were going to pass it to a fellow label artist and leave it unrecorded.

Here is Matt Monroe's studio version that reached #8 in the UK in 1965. Very Sinatra-esque to my ears anyway. Most people in the UK are more familiar with this version than Macca's version

I remember seeing Matt Monro on the Tom Jones show in the late '60's. ETA: Maybe I was thinking of another show, as he's not credited here. Lots of Beatles connections. Read what George Martin had to say. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0598448/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1
