Recently dragged out and revisited the 1978 film, I Want To Hold Your Hand. What a marvellous way to spend a couple of hours. For those not familiar with this film, it's an early Zemeckis/Spielberg collaboration that at times hints at what was to come with the Back To The Future trilogy. Not to say it's similar - just in the joyful way those times in 1964 are presented. It's in the SPIRIT of Back To The Future: great fun and the era is faithfully reproduced. The story follows a group of teens who drive to NYC determined to secure tickets to the Ed Sullivan Show. Made on a small budget, with a cast of unknowns, the performances are all great and The Beatles music in the film is the ORIGINAL BEATLES RECORDINGS. If you haven't seen this film, I highly recommend it! Of all the movies that have a Beatles related storyline, this is by far my favourite.

Robert, I SO agree! I about peed my pants during the scene where the girl jumps out of the moving car to get to a pay phone to answer the Beatles trivia question that was on the radio !

It lost me when it depicted John singing Long Tall Sally (IIRC)

A shame in some ways it didn't come out after BTTF. I'm certain it would have been a much bigger success. It deserved to be.

Just occurred to me how this film and BTTF use lightning strikes to great effect! Geez Zemeckis, get some new material!!!

To his credit though, Bob Zemeckis didn't have The Beatles wandering around blurting, "Great Scott!" I think they do in the King Features cartoons. :

When I was a kid I used to watch a lot 'John & Yoko: A Love Story' (1985) that had in it a very young Mike Myers playing a very small part. This movie also had original songs in it IIRC. Another one I really like is 'Two Of Us' (2000), specially the piano impromptu performance scene. It's a great fiction of how the 1976 meeting between John & Paul could have been.

Great choice moptops - i LOVE this film!! And i was at the BTTF cast reunion talk in july and Marc McClure gave this a mention as to how both he and Wendie Jo Sperber just fell into their BTTF parts as they'd been in Zemeckis two previous films so weren't asked to audition. It's tragic that Wendie Jo Sperber died 10 years ago.. she was so great in i wanna hold your hand, totally captures that complete lust for Paul.

                                .

The guy who played John was so ugly though (in Two Of Us) They should have gotten Tim Piper who was in The Linda McCartney Story. I'm biased though--he's a friend of mine!
