A true Beatles fan?
-
How would you define a true Beatles fan? What do they do? What makes them different from a all right Beatles fan, or a "not-so-good" Beatles fan? Do they just like the music, or is there more to it? Please let me know what you think!
-
I'm a Beatles fan, not a true one, I'm a McCartney fan, not a true fan I dont like the term 'true' fan, I think we are all into them in a certain way and we have differing ideas and ways into doing this, it shouldnt be well I've got this, done this, because it just gets into 'I'm a better fan than you are'

Exactly! I'm a fan. That's it. To me there are only fans, no true ones, no not-so-goods, etc. I'm a fan in my own way.

Yes, I think that basically sums everything up... I didn't mean as in 'I am a better fan than you', but say there are these people and they supposedly like the Beatles to seems "cool" or something, so if there are these fake people out there, how would you define one from another, kind? I know it sounds really weird and confusing...ugh.

Well said...people who claim to be 'true' fans always try to compete with everyone saying I've got this many albums/Dvds...been to these many concerts. Your either a fan or not. However, what about people who maybe like the hits 20-30 records but thats about it. Are they fans or just people with a fleeting interest?

I'm not keen on the 'true fan' definition either but for me, the fans i take seriously are those fans who can seperate the individual(s) from the work that they do and realise that its only the work thats important.

Agreed

Obviously I'm the bigger fan than all ya'll. I got a Flaming Pie tattoo. JK.
I agree with everyone else, I really don't like it when other people try to say they are more of a fan than others because they have this or go to every concert. There is no such thing as a bigger fan.

A Flaming Pie tattoo?!

I got a Flaming Pie tattoo.
Amazing!! Can I see a picture? I've got "take these broken wings and learn to fly" around my wrist, but the flaming pie is just GENIUS.

I wanna see YOUR tattoo too

I think a "true fan" is someone who knows all their songs and all about their career since it began until it ended.

I've seen those who claim to be the "true fans" and I thought they are the most bitter and unfriendly people in the world! Just my experience though...

For me a true fan is the one who scouts everything about the fab four, knows their birthdays and makes online blog tributes to John Lennon and George Harrison. The one who have all their records and knows every detail about each of the band members.. Its funny coz ages ago,I stumbled upon this dame who said that she was an avid Beatles fan and she doesn't even know John Lennon's birthday and death anniversary..

Sheesh even people who aren't fans should know that!

I disagree that you have to know a lot of Beatles facts and folklore to be a fan. All that's necessary is to know and love the music, really love it, I think. I can't just care about Macca's music and not care anything about him as a person, though, just care about 'the work.' I have strong positive feelings about him as a person too, from my impressions of how he is which granted aren't based on knowing him personally but from things I've picked up and gleaned from reading about him, etc., and vibes I got seeing him in concert, stuff like that. Sometimes it can get ugly in here when you don't like something said about Macca and express that, but it's a sign that he's really reached you through his music and persona, through his art-- that you're able to be receptive and to feel. To be 'alive.' I've seldom felt as exhilaratingly 'alive' in recent years, as when I had the total McCartney concert experience this past summer

So true! There are two questions here, are you a fan of the music or of the people? Why on earth would most people in society know John's birthday, even if they love his music? About the death, the killer, who I won't name wanted fame so we shouldn't give it to him, talk endlessly about him or the event. Having said that, I think I am a fan of Paul as a person, not his younger self, but Paul of now, mostly.
