A true Beatles fan?

So true! There are two questions here, are you a fan of the music or of the people? Why on earth would most people in society know John's birthday, even if they love his music? About the death, the killer, who I won't name wanted fame so we shouldn't give it to him, talk endlessly about him or the event.
Thank you very much for posting this!! I was going 'hmm, all these posts make me look like I'm not a fan at all'. Cause I AM a fan of their music and that's it. I don't care about who lived where, when it's their b-day, when and where they recorded what album, how many kids they have, who they're married to, etc. I like the Beatles and Paul cause of their music.

I've seen those who claim to be the "true fans" and I thought they are the most bitter and unfriendly people in the world! Just my experience though...

those apple scruffs, the get-a-life teens who hung around Paul's house stealing his stuff, hung out at apple letting everyone know there were Beatles inside, and were quite mean to Linda, Patti, Yoko, Cynthia and Maureen (for some reason Jane escaped it) in a pretty bad way, called themselves true fans and everyone else casual fans. I say then I'm proud to be a casual fan. but I know I'm not casual.

Yeah, I used to know their birthdays and all of those types of facts when I was in the 5th Grade. Can't say at 57 that I can or care to recall all of that now. I'm just happy I can remember my own name and birthday (most of the time, LOL).

I guess that would be someone who likes the music they played. love doris

I don't reckon that the Apple Scruffs were actually "real" fans. I mean, if you were a true fan, you wouldn't steal things from the people you really admired.

I always say that to the 'first generation fans' who act like the rest of us are babies. I never stole anything from a Beatle and I'm proud of that.

I'm joining this conversation about 3 1/2 years too late but here goes. I can definitely see where anyone who enjoys Paul's music or The Beatles' music has a right to call themselves a true fan, equal to anyone else who likes their music. And it doesn't matter if you were a fan back in the day or a fairly new fan, you're still a true fan in my book. I do feel there is a level of dedication that needs to be acknowledged though. Someone who has attended countless concerts and/or bought all of the albums, magazine articles, books, memorabilia...hasn't that person contributed to the actual success of the artist in a very big and measurable way? These are the ones I think of as "biographers without a book yet". I truly believe that there are fans on this forum who could produce a book somewhat comparable to "Tune In" (on a lesser scale of course) just using the various resources they have at their fingertips in their home libraries and computers. In some ways, some fans here almost know more than The Beatles about The Beatles. Or at least have studied and remembered what they have seen, read or heard about The Beatles in a very intricate way over many years. These are your true Beatles aficionados - the ones who have taken it a step further. My hat is off to them -I'd love to see their Beatles' collections. But we are ALL appreciated; I'd say we're all part of that gigantic tapestry quilt called "true Beatles fans".

Paul has said in interviews that if he forgets the lyrics to a song or if he gets them wrong all he needs to do is look at the audience & they will help him as they know all the words.

I'm a Beatles fan, not a true one, I'm a McCartney fan, not a true fan. I dont like the term 'true' fan, I think we are all into them in a certain way and we have differing ideas and ways into doing this, it shouldnt be well I've got this, done this, because it just gets into 'I'm a better fan than you are'
Exactly! I'm a fan. That's it. To me there are only fans, no true ones, no not-so-goods, etc. I'm a fan in my own way.

How would you define a true Beatles fan? What do they do? What makes them different from a all right Beatles fan, or a "not-so-good" Beatles fan? Do they just like the music, or is there more to it? Please let me know what you think!
A true Beatles fan is a true Beatles fan. They are truly fanatical in the truest sense. They know a lot about the Beatles. If I only like the music, I won't consider myself a Beatles fan.
