After 30 years of being a Beatle/Paul fan, next month I'm finally going to Liverpool! I went to London last year (first time in Europe), but I was with a friend who wouldn't have been interested. (I dragged her to Abbey Rd., Paul's house, and the Apple offices and that was about all I felt like I could do. lol But I recently booked a tour to Germany and Austria for August, so since I'll be in Europe I had to go to England again. I'll be in London for almost a week, so I'm going to take the train up to Liverpool for a little over 24 hours. The day I get there, I've booked the Fab Four Taxi Tour for 3 hours. Then the next morning I'm doing the National Trust tour of Forthllin Road and Mendips. Then I'm heading back to London. The main thing I'm doing in London is Buckingham Palace. Last year I was there before it was open for the summer. I'm going to play most of the rest of it by ear, but one thing I'm doing is saving a lot of Beatle addresses to Google maps, so I can see when I'm near something. I'm excited!

Congrats, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time ! The Fab Four Taxi tour is GREAT, and the guides really know their Beatles history. I liked the tour so much, that I'm taking their Liverpool history tour when I'm there later this summer. Looking forward to hearing about your trip!

What day(s) will you be in Liverpool? My friend and I will be there Aug. 25-31 with Charles Rosenay's Magical History Tour (Liverpool Productions) and will also get to see inside Paul and John's boyhood homes. (My friend has never been, but I have) With the Fab Four taxi you'll get to see all the usual sites like Strawberry Fields (the gates are now recreations and the originals are stored somewhere), Penny Lane, Liverpool Institute and probably Quarrybank High, etc. In 2011 I saw one of those taxis stopped at Strawberry Fields ahead of us. In London you really need to see the Tower of London and the Jewel House, St. Paul's Cathedral, Kensington Palace, Westminster Abbey and the British Museum. We bought a 3-day London Pass for $128 that pays for itself if you use it on enough locations 3 consecutive days. You can also buy a 6-day pass. You get to skip to the front of the queues as well! Go to www.visitbritainshop.com. You order the pass online and pick it up on Charing Cross Rd. in London. They also sell travel cards for the Underground and train transportation from the Heathrow airport to London Paddington (We will be in London Aug. 19-25) The London portion of Charles' tour starts on the 22nd. Have fun!

I'll be in Liverpool much earlier in the month, I think the 8th and 9th. I'm going to Germany on the 12th, so everything I do in England will be before then. Last year when I was in London I did most of that. I did the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the British Museum, and a lot of other stuff, with a London Pass. This year it's more like cleanup for things I didn't see last year. I might do St. Paul's and Kensington, but I'm playing more of that by ear. One thing that I am planning to do is the Museum of London. Maybe the Eye (my friend didn't like heights ) or a river tour. I only have on full day that's completely open in London. Have fun as well!

Liverpool is a great city and the people are part of that. Enjoy your visit. And good plan to visit Buckingham Palace. I was there during the first year that they opened it for tours, and it is worth seeing. 2 other great London museums if you have the time...the V&A and the National Portrait Gallery. I love the Portrait Gallery. History of England via the portraits of its famous faces.

I did the London Eye in 2011 because I got a free, skip the queue, pass from my tour group leader. It cost about 25 GBP then. It was a fantastic view though:

You will love Liverpool the people are very friendly. If you have time check out the museum of Liverpool down at the pier head near the liver building. There are a few Beatles related exhibits. And the cafe on the ground floor is excellent. The view from the top floor window of the pierhead is fantastic.

When you're there, you should check out Sgt. Peppers on Mathew Street - between The Cavern and The Hard Days Night Hotel It's a brand new venue that features a bar, restaurant, music venue whilst upstairs there will be a Beatles themed museum. On the ground floor there's a bar and grill with live Beatles music played everyday More details are available here: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/sgt-peppers-mathew-street-bar-11695600

If you get up to Penny Lane (the roundabout is a mess due to construction which of course they started just before BeatleWeek!) go down to #70 where the Beatles mural and "welcome center" is. I donated 10 GBP about a year ago to help save the mural. #9 Newcastle is one street up across from that big tavern/restaurant on the other side of the roundabout. That's where John lived with his mum before he moved in with Mimi. Will post pics when I can get on my laptop tomorrow.
