When you're there, you should check out Sgt. Peppers on Mathew Street - between The Cavern and The Hard Days Night Hotel It's a brand new venue that features a bar, restaurant, music venue whilst upstairs there will be a Beatles themed museum. On the ground floor there's a bar and grill with live Beatles music played everyday More details are available here: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/sgt-peppers-mathew-street-bar-11695600 http://i3.liverpoolecho.co.uk/incoming/article11695624.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/JS95908568.jpg
That place was so packed every time I passed by, never did get to go inside!
I just ventured in a bit ago to take a quick peek. They were playing the Yellow Submarine movie on the big screen.

I'm back from my trip! I still had a week in Europe after England, but I've been back for two weeks now. I'm working on making a Flickr album of my Beatle-related pics from London and Liverpool, so hopefully I'll be able to post those this weekend. I had fun!

It's emptier now that BeatleWeek is over and done with, but isn't much cop anyway. Also, Instead of working *with* The Cavern Pub/Club, they're working against them so it creates an element of touting for business outside each venue as they try to get you to go to their venue.

Here are my pictures from Liverpool and the Beatle-related ones from London. https://flic.kr/s/aHskG63bQs My first day I went to the Museum of London, which had a few Beatle items, nothing major. Then I made my way over to the Hard Rock Cafe. At this point, I feel like they're not really a big deal anymore here in the US, so I was thinking, great, it's the original, I'll go in and see it and get some dinner. Nope. Over an hour wait! So I went to see what was in the Vault across the street, then just went back to my hotel area (Paddington) to eat. The next day was Buckingham Palace (I loved the exhibit of the Queen's clothes), and when I was done there I saw that I was very near Brian's old house, so I went over to see that. I also went to the Mews behind it to see the pub he used to go to, mainly just to see what a Mews is like. Very interesting! Then the next day I took the train up to Liverpool. When I got a taxi to my hotel at Lime Street, the driver was an older man who said that he was from near where Ringo was. A couple of hours later it was time for my Fab 4 Taxi Tour. I told him that I was doing the National Trust tour the next day, so he said we didn't need to spend as long at those houses, so I asked if we could go to some other places also, which we did. It was so weird to suddenly see something that I'd only seen in pictures for years. My pictures show all the places I saw. I loved being about to get out of the taxi everywhere to get pictures. I definitely wouldn't have liked the Magical Mystery Tour bus. However, sometimes I felt like the stories I was getting were just rumors (or sometimes conspiracy theories), and it also seemed John-centric. So while I definitely liked the taxi tour, I might have done better with a different guide. It was funny, though, some of the things you find out, like Ringo and his mum moved a whoooole minute away from their old house. I had him drop me off at the Cavern at the end. That was more impressive than I thought it would be. I think my mindset of what it was was set back in the 80s when they were still working on it, so my expectations were low. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the original was like (where everything was located). Then I wanted to see the new-ish Beatles statue, so I Googled that to figure out where it was and had a cab driver stop there on the way back to my hotel, which was nearby. The next day I did the Trust tour. That was my favorite part of Liverpool. It was SO COOL to be able to go into their old homes. I didn't have as much of an idea of what Mendips might be like, except just that it was Mimi's. And I guess that's what it was like It's hilarious that Aunt Mimi was worried about that Teddy Boy Paul being a bad influence on her John. I loved going in Forthlin Road! I'd seen a lot more of it because of Mike's pictures, so seeing it in person was great! I wish we could have taken pictures inside (at both). But it was so neat seeing the drainpipe where they used to sneak in, seeing where Paul and John used to write songs, where they had the three wallpapers in one room, and the kitchen and even the back yard. I would love to go back (or live there! ). I can't believe how small both John and Paul's bedrooms were. So tiny! And I didn't realize that they didn't have any central heating, that they had to burn coal in the fireplace. My taxi driver back to Lime Street had met Paul! He has a friend whose dad was Paul's cousin, & he was at a family New Year's Eve party across the river about 7 years ago, & he looked over & there was Paul! And he met him there another time, too! He said that Paul and the cousin were close, and when he died Paul paid for his funeral. Also a weird thing, the driver said that he had a friend who is a boxer who was going to fight in Dallas soon. I thought of that today and remembered his name, Liam Smith. I was going to Google him, but before I could do it, within about 15 minutes I saw a commercial on tv for Liam's fight in Dallas! I went back down to London and decided to make a quick trip to the British Library since it was close. I saw a ton of things there: the Magna Carta, a Gutenberg Bible, a letter from Anne Boleyn & Henry VIII asking Cardinal Wolsey about Henry's divorce, and some handwritten Beatles lyrics. I couldn't take pictures and now I can't really remember what they had. But I know that several things in the case were temporarily off display. I think one was a letter John had written to Stu, which was annoying. One of the things on display was a lyric (maybe A Hard Day's Night?) that John had written on the back of one of Julian's birthday cards. AHDN would fit, as it was a first birthday card. It would have been funny to know who sent the card! Another thing they had was an unreleased song by George. The other ones may have been Michelle and Ticket to Ride. It's amazing what they have in that one room! Then I went over to St. Pancras Old Church nearby, which was one of their locations for their Mad Day Out photoshoot in 1968. It was fun to try to figure out where the pictures had been taken. The next day I decided to just go look for other Beatle places. First I went to find MPL, which I'd wanted to see forever. When I was younger I'd always see that Soho Square address on everything, so I was so excited to see the building! Inside you could see the artwork from Tug of War on the wall. There was a reception desk, and I wanted so much to go in, but I didn't think I'd be very welcome. ("I'm here!" ) I had to decide where I wanted to head and see what I could find along the way. I headed to Bag O' Nails. I have pictures of what else I saw. Plus I went by Carnaby Street. Then I went over to see the Apple Buildling. Last year the Abercrombie was closed, so this year I wanted to go in. Then I headed toward Marylebone Registry Office, saw some things on the way. I finally figured out how to say Marylebone! (And also spell it!) I always thought it was more like Marl-bone, but now I know it's Marley-bone! My eyes have been opened! Then I finally ended up at Marylebone Station to see where they filmed the start of A Hard Day's Night. There's still so much to see! I feel like I've just scratched the surface of both London and Liverpool, just for Beatle things alone, never mind royalty and other history. I guess I'll just have to go back! I hope this wasn't too long. I tend to go on. ops:

Re: That Beatles stuff at the British Library: I thought you could take pics without a flash and got busted by the security guard before I could. Of course, I told him a teenage girl ahead of me took a pic with her phone! May I ask how much that taxi tour cost? I took a pic of one while at Paul's home. You should go on Charles Rosenay's Liverpool Productions Beatle tour of London & Liverpool next time. You wouldn't believe all the stuff I saw for the first time and this was my 5th trip to the U.K. since 1980! In 2011 I took the Beatletour.com tour. Next year I may go back just fot a week to Liverpool during BeatleWeek. I love the bands and because of the tour commitments, missed a lot of them. P.S. Sign up online for Hard Rock Rewards. I had my membership card with me and at first (for lunch) they said it would be a 30 minute wait, but when I pulled it out we got seated immediately (you get priority seating!) did you take pics of the Beatles-related stuff?

The price varies on the tour you want. They start at fifty pounds and go from there, and you can have up to five people in the taxi. The tours are two to five hours and some include a Casbah visit.

British Library: Some girl (who apparently was with a group of college student-types who thought they were oh so superior) was taking video of everything. I wanted to bust her so badly! These are the George lyrics that were there. I'm glad they're online. That makes me feel better about not being able to take a picture! That was the one I was regretting, aside from the things that were off-display at the time. https://www.beatlesbible.com/2009/05/08/unpublished-george-harrison-lyrics-british-library/ I did the 3 hour taxi tour, and it was 60 GPB. Hard Rock: I posted pictures of the Beatles items from the Vault, but didn't get to see the stuff in the actual restaurant. What are those shirts you posted? Was that from John's farming period?? Those look awful, but maybe they made more sense seeing them wearing them? Does anyone have pics of when they did? Maybe their latter touring days?

SkLeigh, fantastic photos! Thanks so much for sharing them.

Re: Those outfits at the Hard Rock Cafe, same ones were there in 2011! I don't recall seeing pics of Paul or John in them!

Never too long when talking about the Beatles! Your photos are awesome! I took many of the same shots this August (and 5 years ago as well) I just had 371 photos printed for 10 cents each at Walgreen's! (half off) Now I need a couple photo albums!

You both have some great pics! Thanks for posting them here.
