Paul "The Most Irish" of the 4 Fabs
-
Paul McCartney is "the most Irish" (on both sides) of the Fab Four, according to something read online the other day. George has some French on his mum's side. John is Irish on "one side" (his dad's). Ringo has "the least Irish" in his blood and is " almost all English" according to the piece. Makes sense regarding Macca 'cause he's looking more and more adorably Irish as the years pass, to my eyes. When he had almost black hair in the early days, he looked "Black Irish" (didn't he?). Was he "black Irish"? Those with black tresses are called that, I believe. At any rate, the Irish are lauded for a way with words (James Joyce, anybody? Plus other literary greats), and Paul is said to be in love with words. Have read that, before. Although his melodies are often considered superior to his lyrics.

I reckon Ringo wore an "Irish" in the I Call Your Name video and the interview sections of the Living In The Material World film...

What a great subject, I'm interested in all that too. Being part Irish & Scottish myself I think Paul acts like an Irish man thinks like an English man. He's a Gemini. Seriously I don't seewhatstheharm if he were to share this. There's also talk that he's Scottish so never really know. His Black Irish looks can also be attributed to being Scottish. Big boned, tall, well proportioned & dark brown hair, you see this all over Scotland too. Now John, he looked classically Irish to me, good old John. The way he walked, what balls! I saw him in action when we were both young in the 60's. He gave me the finger once, now how many people can say that?
-
Wow, under what circumstances did John give you "the finger"? Thanks for sharing that, more details please, if you'd like I never thought of Paul as "big boned" as (to me) he looks rather delicate and finely made, for a man--his body-- and his smallish almost dainty hands--although Macca sure can project a tough strong sexy image when really getting into his guitar playing and the music, on stage I'll never forget his moves *(as well as his music) in concert when I saw him. His priceless facial expressions when he was jamming along. This is a man who truly loves music and never stopped loving it. His visage looks so Irish, to me. Doubtless he's got some Scottish and English in him as well.

'Give Ireland back to the Irish!!' - Paul McCartney.

In Tune In, Mark Lewisohn says "McCartney isn't an English name, but efforts to establish when this specific line of the family arrived in England have proved fruitless, so many are the possibilities. Genealogists ascribe the name's journey to a start in Scotland as the Mackintosh clan, followed by a migration to Ireland, during the course of which they switched from Catholic to Protestant." This is exactly what my mother's ancestors did (Scotland to Ireland, hence known as Scotch-Irish) Paul is totally Irish on his Mum's side. His Mum was born in Liverpool, but spent part of her youth in Ireland after her Mum died in childbirth when Mary was 9.

Big boned? Who?

According to a few sources, it was George who was the most Irish, his family settled into Ireland in the 1200s. http://www.beatlesireland.info/Irish%20Heritage/georgeheritage.html

And this: What of Harrison? According to Damian Smyth, co-author of The Beatles and Ireland, "Of all The Beatles, it was George who had the strongest Irish connections by far." He continues "George had cousins living in Drumcondra [North Dublin] and he made a point of visiting them when they came over to play in 1963. But even before that, in the late forties and early fifties, the family would get the ferry from Liverpool to Dublin to stay with the cousins and go to places like Malahide Beach; I have photos of him there and [of him] walking down O?Connell Street with his mother. So there was a strong connection from the family point of view."

The "French" on his mother's side was her maiden name. In Anthology, George references it in typical understated fashion as a big Irish family.

Hi Susy: Thanks for asking, I love writing about this stuff. John gave me the finger after 7 days of chasing them around LA in 1966. The day of their SF concert they flew out of LA. John put up with us all week but in the last 10 secs that we saw him he gave all of us the finger. There was only about 10 people in all who managed to break into the air strip & wave them off. It was funny at the time, still is now. One of my most cherished memories. Paul was there too, but thats another story, he didn't get right on the plane, first he started walking towards us girls & I damn near fainted (for real). He stopped & pointed to his watch & mimed he had to go about 25 feet from us. Then he did the funniest thing, standing next to the revving jet engine he held his watch to his ear & mimed that he didn't think it was working, pretty funny in the roar of the engines. I know you think Paul's hands are dainty but there not in person, he was always gracious enough to wave a little as they sped away (we often caught up with them but it was always as they were leaving) & I remember big hands, long hands. When he waved he would point with his wrist & wave side to side from the wrist. His hands are at least as big as his face, thats pretty normal. I like to know what his reach is for the piano, bet its over 6 in. Van Cliburn had a reach of 9 or 10, thats amazing. Scottish or Irish, its really the same thing. The Picts from Scotland migrated into Ireland in the iron age & took over. So really the Irish are Scottish deep down, all Celtic. I researched family DNA with Nat'l Geographic & got my Mom's Scottish ancestors in Mount Carmel & my DAD's Irish ancestors in those French caves of prehistoric drawings. Thats really mixing things up if you ask me.

PAUL of course. Thats how he appeared in his prime. Tall in a suit & those boots, he wore them everywhere. I think his shirt cuff pulled down past his wrist is what is making his hands look small. To discuss bone structure you have to go back to his hay day physic. He never looked small, dainty or any of that. He looked tall & well nourished, if he was faking it he would have look like Ringo. Now there was a surprise, in person Ringo looked like he had given up eating for good. I didn't know why at the time but now, been there done that, its obvious. How funny, it took out fake-ing!, this censor has a one track mind.

Now Paul and I have 2 things in common: I am Irish and Mexican & both of our Mom's are named Mary.

Wow, thats a great tracing. Usually don't see so much detail. Makes me wonder because I was told that everybody lost all public records when Cromwell destroyed the country. I checked in Dublin & Edinburgh & they said theres no going back pre-Cromwell for anybody, he burnt down the churches & that destroyed all the records (a double whammy which he did on purpose). I'd like to know where all this was found. The only way I'd believe it is if it came from family.

Yes he was mighty fine in his prime (which will be different periods for us all...I'd say 76) but I never would call him big boned.
-
I don't know about now but when I studied this you only had two choices: big boned or fine boned. I would not describe him as fine boned, not with those beefy wrists, wide shoulders, long well formed legs, that broad back, no way could you call that fine boned, skinny sometimes yes cause that was the style but there are pictures of him when he was eatting better back when Stella was born. God what a hunk.

This same article claims Ringo "obviously" could only be English--wonder why they wrote that...is it because Ringo resembles the cartoon English Andy Capp character (or vice versa) :
