The Sixties/Beatlemania

Why Beatlemania could never happen today: http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/30/showbiz/celebrity-news-gossip/beatles-ed-sullivan-50-years-anniversary/index.html?iid=article_sidebar

The world still hasn't gotten over the 60's or The Beatles. So many things made Beatlemania a one-off. There were no times like the 60's, and no group like The Beatles. 14 songs in the Top 100 at 1 time! That's just crazy. It will never happen again. They will never happen again!
-
I honestly think that it could happen again. We saw some of that excitement with Elton John, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, and The Eagles, and later, with Michael Jackson, and later, Nirvana. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" has over 100 Million views at YouTube. So does Jackson. And we saw even more with Leonardo DiCaprio and "Titanic". And that song. But it won't be a Nirvana next time. It will be someone with a fresh youthful sincerity, not burdened by their troubles. It will happen with someone who is prolific and can deliver an honest Ballad or anything that defies the prevailing social obligations and the pessimism. And it will be the girls who will once again respond.

Beatlemania is a definitive part of human history... Just like any other overwhelmingly profound past and current event has been Beatlemania is only beginning to happen It can't happen today...because it is already happening
-
I agree with that article. We see this kind of hysteria now with people like One Direction, but it can't compare. There was nothing like Beatlemania before, nothing on that scale. The internet and all the new technological developments have changed the way we get our information, so things are different now. I saw a comment on that link referring to the excitement of waiting for a new Beatles record to be released. Downloading means everything is pretty much instant now, everything happens a lot faster and it probably ruins that kind of excitement a little bit.

Other than the fact that you are attempting to write for dramatic effect, how do you support such an incredibly absurd assertion?

It is neither dramatic or absurd in any way shape or form...it is simply a higher educated observation. If you have no interest in seeing it...there is nothing that I can do to prove it to you. Paul is recognized internationally as the most profound musician in human history. The Beatles are hardly on their way out. What are you doing spending so much time posting on a board so closely associated with a band that was formed nearly 60 years ago? They must be having some type of endearing and durable influence on the human race.

Nicely put! I totally agree, and I have wondered many times why anyone would bother spending time on a forum for somebody they obviously haven't got a clue about or any understanding about his impact on the world.

Beatlemania was throngs of fans going wild at just the sight of the mop tops. Beatlemania was fans screaming so loud during concerts that the band couldn't even hear themselves playing. Beatlemania was over by 1967--I think you are confusing popularity with Beatlemania. You make the assertion that Beatlemania is still going on today. I ask you to show me where are the Beatlemaniacs? No doubt the band is still having an influence in some music and with some musicians, but Beatlemania is long gone and as the article says will probably never be seen again for a multitude of reasons.

Beatlemania today is a nostalgia trip. Nowhere near as potent as when it actually happened in the 60s. In the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Beatlemania was pretty much non-existent. One reason is there was actually some pretty good music being made in those eras. Now, not so much.

Moderator post There is really no need for the continued bickering and personal remarks between a few members in "Yesterday". The following is quoted from the sticky at the top of this forum: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=80341 This is not what our forum is for and we must ask you all to consider the feelings of others by carefully checking the contents of your posts before posting. Beatlemania is not about John, Paul, George, Ringo, Brian Epstein, Sir George Martin or any of the named or unnamed people who contributed immensely to what we know as The Beatles. It happened 50 years ago, it is occurring now, and will continue forever. Beatlemania is a revolution of the mind. People all over the world continue to get turned onto the cosmic concept of The Beatles and the fact we all are ONE. The Beatles are a representation of LOVE and what we all can be in the world if we lose negativity and embrace the positive. "The LOVE you take is equal to the LOVE you make." "I'd Love to Turn You On..." btw: there are concepts that exist in this world and indeed the Universe that have yet to be named in the dictionary.

Really? Like wow man, so you mean it's actually some kind of heavy cosmic trip or something man? With love Kittay! ops:

I have to agree with some of the posts I've read here. Beatlemania is already happening and always will happen. If parents raise their kids to listen to the Beatles, and if their kids love the Beatles then in the future, their music will continue to live on and people will always have the "Beatlemania" in their life. Especially while since Paul and Ringo are still with us as well Beatlemania will continue to exist as there are millions of fans around the world today and still kicking strong.

The Beatles would agree with you...it is woven into their music
