Exceptional performance of "Blackbird"
I'm a regular watcher of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert which is still taped at the Ed Sullivan theatre in New York and of course we all know who played there on February 9th, 1964. Anyway, this past February 9th, the Late Show did it's own mini-tribute to the Beatles with bandleader Jon Batiste playing an *almost* all instrumental version of Blackbird on the piano but he did a bit of singing as well. This is one of those rare cover versions of a Beatles song which is almost as good as the original. (To me anyway.) Here's a link to the video of the performance:Over on Twitter even the great producer Quincy Jones was impressed by Jons performance. Here's a link to his reaction: Enjoy.
Thanks for posting that. That was wonderful. Nice to see covers that are interpretations rather than "play by the numbers" stuff. I dare say Paul himself would enjoy that.
You're welcome and I agree Robert. I like the fact that he stayed close to the original but added his own interpretation to it as well.
