Where/Who did you get your 'Beatlemania' from?
-
I was on my school holidays and had a rusty blank cassette obtained from my brothers bin. He was having a sort out and I rescued this tape. Weird enough, I cant remember what was on the bulk of the cassette, but the 'Let It Be' album was cut short on side 2 of the cassette. My brother was Beatle-mad and had posters on his walls, I remember he had the 4 postcards from the white album on his cupboards and he used to tell me their names. I could never ever remember George's. His bedroom was full of mystery as it was always locked when he was out and locked when he was in. So when I was inside it was magical. He worked really early in the mornings so went to bed earlier than myself who was 11-ish at the time. So, I left him a note under his door requesting if possible if he could tape the remainder of Let It Be for me. The next morning I woke up and found he had left not only Let It Be, but all the Beatles albums for me. That day was magical. I listened all day to The Beatles that day. I owe my Beatlemania to my brother.

PS, It's funny as he soon married and his passion for music kind of faltered. I have gone on and married but my passion has only grown. I used to think he was the OPTA of The Beatles, but now he probably only knows about 20% of what I do. Thanks bro, but your still not borrowing my new 'new', go get your own...

I am the youngest of six kids and each of my five siblings had very different musical tastes. This was great exposure for me and as a result I love a lot of very different music. My brother, six years older than me, was a huge Wings and Beatles fan. When I was 5 Wings over America came out and I used to sit with him in his room and listen to it repeatedly. He had the White Album poster up over his bed and owned every Beatles album. The Red and Blue albums were my favorites
He went to Beatlefest in Chicago every year and was a big fan. So, I owe my brother. When John Lennon's murder was announced on TV my brother was in the shower and I pounded on the door until he came out to tell him. I felt a great urgency because I didn't know anyone that loved the Beatles more. It was like telling him that a family member died.

I got the gist of what you said, but what does OPTA stand for? Also, what year were you 11? I was 11 in 1966 so I remember everything from the beginning in the U.S. (I Want To Hold Your Hand coming on the radio in Dec. '63 and them on Ed Sullivan Feb. 9, 1964! Those were the days my friend!)
First album I got was Meet The Beatles in Feb. '64 and I've been shelling out money ever since!
Oh, and btw, the pics of the Beatles from the White Album were full color 8 x 10 glossies, not postcards.
I still have mine.

My brother had the poster and 8x10s up in his room. I remember really liking the bathtub Paul pic but not liking the John naked pic at all. Guess my preference was pretty clear at a young age.

I'm not sure why I called them postcards? Your right, they were slightly bigger than a standard iPad. He did have the poster too which I have now but I'm not sure what happened to the prints. Strangely, I have got the poster of John in the white room at his piano from the imagine LP, but not the Ram-style postcard. I was 11 in 1986. I remember being a bit embarrassed to be a fan of the band. Now I feel a bit embarrassed about that. In 87 I waited until christmas week to buy 'once upon a long ago' thinking it might be christmas number one. I might be wrong but I think that was his last UK top10 single, things like that mattered to me then but now are irreverent. I bought all the 10 year anniversary magazines about John in 1990 and at the time I thought it seemed to be centuries ago. Same thing with the 20th anniversary of Pepper in 87. Can't believe now that it's over 20 years when I first seen Paul live. In between I've been picking up lots of memorabilia, reading everything about them and listening to all Beatle-related music since.

Just a quick thing, this actually has a LOT to do with Ringo than any of them, funny how that should be.... especially when my nickname has been Ringo because I used to play drums... The first song I ever rember hearing is "if you've got trouble", sung by ringo. I don't know how that's possible since I didn't have anthology 2 until around last year ( I know, shoot me I didn't have it for ages...) Now to the main part, as a child, I was a HUUUGE tomboy. I used to watch all of the "boys" shows, I used to do all of those sort of things. I especially loved Thomas the tank engine. which was narrated by... of course, Ringo. through that one connection, my mum showed me a couple of beatles songs. ( quite positive it was off of beatles oldies, but goldies) I didn't really think much of it but when I was about 5 ( or so I think anyway...) my uncle game me the single collection ( or it could of been after i got the LOVE album, im not entirely sure). I LOVED IT. I can rember saying to my mother one time " wow there must be 2 bands called the beatles!"
I thought that some of the pictures didn't resemble the people on the other ones
I think the thing that really converted me into a little beatmania sufferer was when for my 6th or 7th birthday, I was given the LOVE album. I said I loved the cd singles but oh man, I loved the LOVE album. I took it everywhere I went and took it in countless times to show and tell sessions. the disk and case are in really really bad condition now but I give it a listen on some occasions. I find myself sometimes being cured of beatlemania when i get intrested in other bands or topics all together. but of course, beatlemania is almost like annoying colds you get in summer: they linger around and come back at a time you don't really want it to or expect it to. For example, I used to be in the "Cool" group ( and was pretty miserable as well so...) and i used to "Love..." modern artists. It still gives me the chills when i said i liked lady gaga and someone brought me one of her albums as a gift... i need to burn that album someday... anyway, i was the kid who was a wiz at video games. i could beat anyone at Mario Kart and knew about all the new releases coming out. looks like in the joyous year of 2009 a little game called "the beatles rockband" was set for release. I can rember seeing the graphics for it and having a nerd spazz. to this day, they are really impressive! when it was released, i wasn't allowed to get it. not the end of the story though. about a year later when everyone had played the game, ( and sadly forgot it...) YouTube had people posting themselves getting 100% scores on the game. like the nerdling i was at the time, i watched them at first for the graphics. about when i started watching the video for "while my guitar gently weeps" i completely stopped looking at the graphics and was into the music. It was really hard while i was listing to all the great beatles stuff, i was trying to get myself to listen to the crap and memorise it... as you can probably tell by now, i was demoted to the "you SUUUUCKKK" group where i still chill today. But that's cool with me, id prefer to revolutionise music once again and make it great again. i could keep on writing about the countless times that i sort of cured myself of beatlemania for it to come back again but my hands are sore and black death study is just calling me... yayy....

So you liked this: YES! What about this one? It was on the poster too
When I was young that pic didn't make much of an impression on me. It was small and hard to see/understand. But now... different story.

Definitely from my older brother. He bought me the Hollywood Bowl LP when it came out, and I played that record every chance I got. That was around 1977. I was 12 at the time. Then every Christmas or birthday I would get another Beatles record. He fueled the fire
I remember one night he came home with Let It Be, and just handed it me. No special occasion, except that it was in a bargain bin, and the price was right.

Singing Yellow Submarine at kindergarten in 1966. Then...buying Juniors Farm and Shaved Fish... Never looked back, baby!!! Now it's in my DNA.

I was 13 when the White Album came out and I didn't think too much about that pic either! Now I wonder why he had to bring that wide white pole into the bathroom!
And remember the other pic of John & Yoko in bed? John is shirtless and is on the phone? All you can see of Yoko is a dark mass of hair. At first I refused to believe that was Yoko! (I was not a fan)

Hilarious naked pic of Paul! never saw that, are you saying its on the White Album poster? my parents liked the Beatles and Paul but Id say I got myself into them. full fledged Beatlemania people
kidding. My first real memory of actually listening to McCartney was with one of my P's cassette tapes, of All The Best. I think I really dug Uncle Albert on that first listen. but then it took me years before I really got into Paul. I was probably around 8 when I heard that tape, then started giving a shit maybe 5 yrs later
-
Me and my sister became fans at the same time - we didn't get it from anyone, in October 1984 she bought Julian Lennon's "Too late for goodbyes" single and i (age 9!) bought Paul's "No more lonely nights" single. And it grew very fast from there!!!

Yes, both above pics of Paul and the one of John & Yoko in bed are all on the White Album poster.

I was the a fan all by myself. Now my older sister says she wanted to take me to see the Beatles but I was too young.
Never even knew she was aware of them.

Became a Beatle fan all on my own. Late 1963, age 12, saw pictures of them in a teen magazine and immediately was smitten, then on TV in Feb. 1964...and the rest is history.
