The Rolling Stones didn't play in Albuquerque because a promoter stepped up, they stepped up and approached the facility. I suppose that is how it happens, but even then, a promoter did approach him last year to play Las Cruces and he didn't.

So the solution to scalpers ripping off fans is for the artist and the promoter to take on the role of the scalper and rip off the fans?? THAT'S the solution to the problem? Ridiculous. That's why I won't go and participate in such nonsense. $1500 -$250 for the ticket price. That's an extra $1250 you pay to sit hundreds of feet away while a sound check is done, which is not ANY extra work for the band or artist or crew (here's a little secret: they do a sound check anyway and always have!
) and get a t shirt, some stickers and some other merchandise worth probably about $100. And THAT is supposed to be a great deal?? Oh, and ANYONE can do it, so you aren't really a "special guest" or anything. Because you are PAYING to do it. -
It is a lot for a depressed economy like San Antonio. But smaller shows are inherently more valuable so unless you get a free one, like the Amoeba show, this is the next best thing. i like hearing about small shows bc the whole stadium scene is just so big and crazy! More small shows, and of course cheaper

The first time I saw him I had 4th row tickets for $28.50 (that was 1990) - the concert industry has completely changed since then. I don't have the money to buy a VIP package, but I won't hold it against those who do and feel it is a worthwhile value. As you said, there is nothing additional (other than a few inexpensive 'goodies') that weren't already payed for, but it is one more revenue stream - and that is what most acts look for these days since it is basically impossible to make money selling records (since most people now feel music should be available for free or close to it). I understand where the indigation comes from though. They are simply taking over the role of the scalper and taking that money from the scalper and putting it in the touring companies pocket. I will say I do not believe this show will be seen as part of the tour. It is not announced by McCartney's team, the tickets are only being sold through the local venue. Yeah, he really does need to make up the money he is losing because the music biz has changed.

All I know is Lackland AFB and the Riverwalk as well as the Tower of Americas I saw during my one town pass from basic training (although I also lived there when my dad was stationed in the area...but I was too young for me to remember that first stint) But anyway, if anyone here was fortunate enough to score tickets to this cool gig, congrats

A good friend of mine who works in the concert promotion business said this about how artists end up playing certain markets, but not others: A lot goes into consideration - economics, size of venue, will the production fit, what feeder markets are there, routing, etc. Usually the artist isn't very involved, but may specify to play markets he or she hasn't been to before. Makes sense.

I would guess that the show might be a little shorter, but you never know. I do think that the rising platform may not be used for this show, since there may not be room for it...?

That will all be getting set up in Lubbock. I think you are likely to see a setup like the Frank Sinatra High School setup, or maybe Apollo Theater. Primarily just the band and the amps. Will be interesting to see if they even set up a screen. I also would expect a shorter show. I would be surprised if he plays a 3-hr set. I'm thinking more in the 1 1/2 to 2 hr range, but I guess we will see in a few more weeks. RamblinRed
