Such a beautiful church!
I can't wait to see it in person! Oh, I read an article somewhere about the stained glass pieces there, so lovely. Also I read John was in the choir, and was confirmed there at 15 years old.
Thanks everyone for the photos.

This is a painting inside Woolton church hall recreating John meeting Paul: St. Peter's: Here's a good article from The Beatles Bible about the say they met: http://www.beatlesbible.com/1957/07/06/john-lenno n-meets-paul-mccartney/ I never heard the part about them going to the pub after and lying about their ages to get served!
(In England you only have to be eighteen) Why does this forum always show this
when you type the number eight?!!

That account of John and Paul being introduced to each other in the church hall isn't quite accurate although they certainly were together in the hall that evening. They were actually introduced in the scout hut ( higher up the slope in the fete field) that afternoon before going on to the church hall. Paul has muddled up the two locations (not surprisingly after fifty odd years) as can be seen from the following quote: 'After they'd finished playing, Ive (Ivan Vaughan) took us to the church hall just behind the church, that was up the hill a bit from where the fete was. We went up there and, by now, they'd finished their set so they were kind of, you know, having a beer.' The thing is, the church hall isn't behind the church and nor was it up the hill a bit either. The church hall is in front of the church, across the road and down the hill ....a bit. It certainly wasn't located near the fete. But the scout hut was. That was up the hill,in the fete field, and use to be located where the new school now stands. This is all confirmed by Quarry Man drummer Colin Hanton, who although was with the Quarry Men that afternoon, he didn't go with them to the church hall in the evening. And Colin was present when John and Paul were introduced !!! More details can be found in David Bedford's excellent books on the Quarry Men / early Beatles, 'Liddypool' & 'The Fab one Hundred and Four'. .

Enjoying the readings and photos so much...

Some speculation John and Paul met well before St Peters outside the ABBA (yes, ABBA) newsagency. Noted by Lewisohn in his Tune In book, not confirmed but cites Paul himself mentioning this tantalising prospect to friends, privately. I like to go with the St Peter's meeting, myself.

And I believe Lewisohn mentions that Paul was aware of John's existence long before they actually met.

Yeah, I've got the book and read that and it probably is true.
