As a Macca solo / Wings fan, I've never really 'got' The Beatles. Sure, they recorded some good songs, and some great ones. But they also recorded some practically unlistenable stuff, examples of which can be found at: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/worst-beatles-songs/ My favourite Beatles songs include Eleanor Rigby and Helter Skelter, but there are relatively few tracks which really 'grab' me as a proportion of what they actually released during the 60's. In contrast, I could probably count on 2 hands the number of tracks I couldn't listen to from Macca's ENTIRE post Beatle career. (E.g CMoon, Freedom and the medlay on RRS) Maybe it's the 60's production I can't warm to? Or the complete lack of melody on their more experimental tracks. I'd welcome any advice on tracks to check out, rather than complete albums, unless you think there's an album that's faultless... I know all the big hits obviously, but what are the hidden album gems I should consider? Do you think I can be converted? Do you think there's something wrong with me ? Thanks for your help

Yes, I'm afraid there is something wrong with you.

Btw, most of those songs on the worst list were never meant to be anything other than filler. I recommend side two of Abbey Road in its entirety.

Oh dear. I just don't understand why. I'm a massive music fan too.

I thought the Beatles didn't do filler?

From Abbey Road: The highlights : Something - Beautiful Oh! Darling - great vocal from Paul Here Comes The Sun (Classic!) You Never Give Me Your Money (Starts off well but for much of the track wanders rather aimlessly, I guess I'm used to hearing a segment of it with the 3 below live. I prefer 1,2,3,4,5, lets for for a drive Golden Slumbers - Beautiful Carry That Weight The End But that leaves a lot of 'filler' for me. More than on any post Beatles album. And I guess this is my general point.

How do you like all the Beatles songs that Paul does in concert?

I'm not keen on a lot of them. I'd rather he did more solo songs. Obla di, All together now, Lovely Rita, Mr Kite Too twee for me

dig it, yer majesty, wild honey pie, etc.. We're never meant to be serious songs that you should be analyzing along with the rest.

I'd way prefer more solo stuff. It is very Beatles heavy. Don't get me wrong... I've loved the Beatles since I saw them on Ed Sullivan but I also love Paul's solo career.

Lack of melody?? The Beatles practically invented melody for a rock group.

Some of the more experimental tracks lack melody for me.

Tip #1 - when seeking to appreciate the music of the Beatles, don't start by Google a website for "the Beatles worst songs"

I was merely demonstrating that The Beatles are not beyond criticism. Everyone seems to bang on about how perfect they were.

True perfection is perhaps an impossibility... but, boy, The Beatles got as close to it as anyone or anything..... Michael Galluci's "10 Worse Beatle Songs" just made the list of my "10 Most Banal and Irrelevant Articles Ever Read" list.
