Sgt Pepper'

1st July 1967, The Beatles started a 15 week run at No.1 on the US album chart with 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', the group's 10th US No.1 album. Recorded over a 129-day period beginning in December 1966, the album widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, includes songs such as 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' and 'A Day in the Life'. Amazing it was only 15 weeks. I still recall, as a damn fool kid, hearing the album being continuously coined "the greatest album of all time"... none of this "one of the.."... But I guess I was naïve. Never really understood that Beibs, Miley and One Direction would arrive on the scene to totally change the direction of music. Pioneers.

All at a time when they were still releasing two albums a year. It was hailed as the new direction, a musical breakthrough. It was crossover, mixing classical and jazz elements with heavy rock and great pop. Lennon and McCartney's triumph. Got them the cover story on Time magazine also, in a piece called "The Messengers." People may not understand the impact of this album now. In 1967 it was called the unifying event that bonded western civilization, "at least in the minds of the young." How naïve and glorious it all was. We all were. Pepper still sounds different, and great!

My cousin Tony once commented that Sgt Pepper is one of the best albums they made I like it a lot too but I lean more towards Rubber Soul album. However I do have my favorite songs on Sgt. Pepper and I also like the suits they wore for the cover too.

Wow, your cousin Tony should write for Rolling Stone.

I remember the impact it had on me when I first got Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I was probably about 10 years old and it was in the early seventies . I used to go into records stores and look at The Beatles section and Sgt Pepper's really intrigued me. I think I had a small selection of Beatles records, presents from my parents, including a couple of those 4 track EP's -The Beatles Hits (Love Me Do, Please Please Me, From Me To You, Thank You Girl) and Yesterday and the Australian compilation album - The Essential Beatles, maybe also had A Hard Days Night and few early Paul & John singles like Another Day and Imagine but I knew I must get this amazing looking album with the intriguing title. I only knew one song With A Little Help From My Friends which was on the The Essential Beatles album. Anyway I saved up my pocket money and went and bought it myself. The first with my own money. I remember the excitement and anticipation of finally getting to hear it. I got home and listened to it and was completely blown away, it was absolutely amazing, it was beyond all my expectations and I played it over and over for many months. It is still an amazing and ground breaking album and brings back great memories.

Sgt. Pepper was the first Beatles CD that I had. My dad brought it home for us and we fought to listen to it! It was so rich in sound!

Can't believe the album is that old...still sounds fresh. For me, it's my 3rd favorite Beatles album behind Abbey Road (#1) and Revolver...and it sits just above my 4th favorite...the White Album

As far as I can see the Beatles will always remain ever fresh! They are legendary! New fans will keep coming in the years ahead!
So Sgt Pepper's and other albums by the Beatles will continue on probably even after we're all gone.
