That's the line! What were you told it means?

Erik, I have been away a bit, no computer access (which is a good, healthy thing sometimes.) Thank you for starting this topic. Having fun catching up with this thread and others. Very impressed with Luis' knowledge and speed of delivery with his answers. (Hi, Luis, nice to meet you!) I would have done well with the "road" and "sun" songs...not so well with the fanny-related question!

All are correct except and Mother Nature's Son. ("son" doesn't count) You got 9 right, so there is one more. I'll just tell you what it is since Erik has asked another question. It's Yellow Submarine. Guess what? The book I used did not list Across the Universe and I almost said you were incorrect with that, but it clearly has the word "suns" in it. I'll have to write to the authors!

The word "sun" is mentioned in the lyrics to "Mother Nature's Son"! Find me in my field of grass, Mother Nature's son/ Swaying daises sing a lazy song beneath the sun...

Anyone wanna talk about Scarlett's fanny?? She posted a humorous story about using this word (in the American sense while in England causing eyebrows to be raised amongst the upper crust of British society). This is a prime example of "two nations separated by a common language." The lads apparently slipped in another very similar reference in one of their songs, perhaps a Liverpudlian reference I'm not sure (to what might be called a "fanny" in England) that was never caught by the censors. Can you name the line and the song?

Not sure about the fanny reference, but one they definitely slipped in and got away with was "a four of fish and finger pie." How about other references to Sex in their songs, obvious or not so?

Just read the e-book "Got That Something!", about "I Want To Hold Your Hand," and it mentions the bridge: And when I touch you I feel happy inside It's such a feeling that, my love, I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide! He points out that there's an obvious sexual image that explains why he "can't hide" that happy feeling! Don't want to get more specific, but I hope I've, uh, pointed you in the right direction. ops:

Fave, last year I went to a Beatles' themed fireworks display where the fireworks and colored water fountains shooting water a hundred feet in the air coordinated with various Beatles songs. When they played "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and when they got to the part "and when I touch you I feel happy inside" there was the most beautiful explosion of fireworks in the sky that changed into a huge smiley face. I will never think of that memory in the same way again.

"Four of fish and finger pies" Is actually two slang Scouse phrases. "Four of fish" is four pence of fish and chips. Any you can read about a "finger pie" here: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_Lane

Besides the title, "Come Together" has one or two racy turns of phrase. And how about "Helter Skelter"!?

What are they?? I have seen people analyze the lyrics for Come Together and claim they represent everything from a type of Japanese orgy that Yoko introduced John to, to verses about each Beatle, to all biblical references. I think it was as John said mostly nonsense . Helter Skelter is about a ride found in English amusement parks (a slide) in the day.

Was it "tit" being used in Girl? (they sing it over and over in the background during She's the kind of girl who puts you down when friends are there...)

                      Correct.

I think DM was asking whether that was the answer to my trivia question. The answer was NO. It was the Scouse phrase "finger pies" in Penny Lane.

Hi Dappa! No, but that was another clever thing they got away with. This is (from what I understand) a Scouse (sp?)/Liverpudlian term that's synonymous with the English term "fanny." Glad someone's thinking about this question. What the heck happened to Scarlett this weekend anyway??

Erik, I read that what dappa-macca said was true--the Beatles "got away with it" because it sort of sounded like "dit dit dit" but they were singing "tit tit tit!" Edited to add: Never mind, I see she was trying to answer your question (answer "four of fish and finger pies") ops:

Yes, to me it always feels like lovemaking on acid or something. Spinning around the room, lurching up and down all over the place, and the grinding guitars add to that feeling. For "Come Together," it's mostly the chorus, I guess, and John's moaning in different parts of the song. And he does similar suggestive noises at the end of "Revolution 1." And it's there at the end of "Lovely Rita" too!
