Why Didn't Paul Attend The Rock 'N Roll HOF Induction?
-
He must have had a darn good reason. I saw George make a comment in an interview about Paul not attending the induction and using that as a failed attempt at fulfilling a personal agenda of some sort and during his speech said "We loved John...and we loved Paul." And there were a few more allusions to Paul not being there. Unless I misheard what he said, I thought it bizarre than he used the past tense. Of course Yoko in her white suit got her barb in that "John would have been here!" I can't stand that woman and I think again George could have taken a higher road.

Well I just Googled it and I see it was because of the Apple lawsuit that was still on going. Seems to be a reasonable enough reason for me. And I see George is quoted as using love in the present tense--it sounded like "loved" to me. "I was keen to go to (the dinner) and pick up my award, but after 20 years the Beatles still have some business differences which I had hoped would have been settled by now," McCartney said in the statement. "Unfortunately, they haven't been (settled), so I would feel like a complete hypocrite waving and smiling with (Harrison and Starr) at a fake reunion." I also see that that little-talent has-been Mike Love took a shot at Paul at the affair--I'm glad he was booed by the audience after he finally shut his yap. The more than 700 people who paid up to $1,000 a ticket to attend the black-tie affair were caught by surprise when the Beach Boys' Love took a slap at McCartney and another no-show, the Supremes' Diana Ross. "I think it is wonderful to be here tonight," said Love, following the other Beach Boys at the microphone as they accepted their awards. "But I also think it is sad that there are other people who aren't here tonight (to be honored) and those are the people who passed away," Love said, referring to the Beatles' John Lennon, the Beach Boys' Dennis Wilson and the Supremes' Florence Ballard. "Those are the obvious ones. "But there are also (people who chose not to come for other reasons), people like Paul McCartney, who couldn't be here tonight because he's in a lawsuit with Ringo and Yoko (Ono, Lennon's widow). . . . That's a bummer because we're talking about harmony . . . in the world." On a roll, Love made some more sarcastic references to the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Mick Jagger during a long, rambling speech. He even suggested that Jagger was afraid to be on the same bill as the Beach Boys. The remarks were so pointed that when he left the stage, there was widespread booing from the audience.

Mike Love? Didn't he fire Brian Wilson?

Mike Love almost sounds like he meant well, but went off track when he took a right instead of a left at Greenland...LOL

Mike Love needs to truly keep his yap shut and look in the mirror at himself. He is not exactly this harbinger of peace and love that he tries to pass himself off as. Compared to The Beatles The Beach Boys history is even more cluttered with animosity and bad feelings. In the past 30 years or so Love would serve himself better by minding his own "business". That should be enough to keep him busy for the rest of his life.

Lots of water under the bridge since then. They obviously still love and care about each other. Even Paul and Yoko. Probably time to drop it.

I couldn't agree more! Love made a real ass of himself that night and marred the night for the remaining "Beach Boys"--not that I really care about their music anyway! Crazy that people compare Pet Sounds to Sgt. Pepper--not even in the same league as far as I'm concerned! It almost sounded like he was drunk as his tirade was idiotic in so many ways. He should have stopped after the first sentence or two and his point may have come across without making himself look like a real jerk. I found the following to be a major insult to all of the Beatles and George and Ringo should have walked off the stage at this point: "The Beach Boys played live 180 times last year--I'd like to see the 'mop tops' do that!" Sure they did--they play small gigs like the Garden State Arts Center in NJ where all has-been second-rate bands play. If the "mop tops" were still touring they would fill whole sports arenas like the Stones. His comment about the Stones was disgusting too. Why would the Stones want to play with a small act like the Beach Boys? Again, not even the same league in terms of crowd draw! Let's face it--the Beach Boys' music is outdated and becoming irrelevant--while the Beatles' music is timeless. A hundred years from now no one will know who the Beach Boys were--they will be a footnote in rock 'n' roll history whereas people will still be listening to the Beatles. I have lost all respect for the man after seeing this on YouTube and once gone is lost forever, not that the great Mike Love (Mike who?) would care, but hopefully I am the rule rather than the exception.

Yes and Heather Mills is being put up for sainthood too!
I might be going out on a real limb here Randy, but I would have to say that Paul and Yoko do not love each other!

I wish he's taken a right at Greenland and stayed there or kept going!

I don't believe "Pet Sounds" is their "Sgt. Pepper" either, though they both share a subversive underpinning. I do think "Pet Sounds" is The Beach Boy's "Rubber Soul".
