                      It's always been a toss-up between the two. George was definitely the "fifth Beatle" in the studio, but Brian was the fifth Beatle in the general sense. Especially since he's the one who brought them to Martin's attention and got them their recording contract.

                                  Yep that's why i'm the 12th Beatle - they wouldn't have made it without me.. i mean ok, i wasn't born til 1974 but still 😉 If George Martin is 5th, Brian 6th, Stuart 7th, Pete 8th, Neil 9th, Mal 10th, Derek 11th... that leaves 12 onwards for us fans eh (I'm in a sleep deprived silly mood tonight, sorry!)

                                        To my thinking, the only real, true fifth Beatle is Stuart Sutcliffe, because he was an actual member of the group.

                                            George Martin signed something that already had Pete's autograph. He noticed it and snarled, "Why have you got his signature? He wasn't a Beatle!" Never forgot that.
