http://news.gnom.es/pr/sony-and-jackson-estate-reach-agreement-for-sony-to-acquire-remaining-half-of-sonyatv-music-publishing The Estate noted that the transaction will not affect its continuing substantial interests in other music assets, including all of Michael Jackson?s master recordings as well as Mijac Music, the publishing company that owns all of the songs written by Michael Jackson as well as songs by some of his favorite songwriters and artists that were acquired by Michael during his life. In addition, the Estate will also retain 10% ownership interest in EMI Music Publishing. Meaning, he still owns the early Len-Mac songs (just two: "Love Me Do" and "PS I Love You" MPL/Lenono owns the copyrights) and Motown's Jobete.

No. George's family will always own his songs since he had separate publishing from John and Paul. Lennon's estate will always have a stake in the Lennon and McCartney catalogue. But Paul could get control over the songs, maybe eventually. He had a chance many years ago and blew it, as did Yoko.

Peter Doggett's great book "You Never Give Me Your Money" needs to be updated! Especially with all the changes in music publishing - streaming radio, digital rights, rights back to the Beatles estates, etc.

Paul could have purchased the songs over 30 years ago in the early 80's. I'm sure if he had to do it all over again, he would have done it. Yes, he'll get the songs back in a few years, but he'll also be pushing 80. He could have controlled how Beatle songs would be used all these years...

I would Expect other bidders for that library at the time. If so, then "holding off" is a very unusual thing to do. And then, MJ just kept his mouth shut the whole time? I mean, who's the punk? The only other answer is that the library wasn't considered to be that valuable. Either that or it was understood at the time by MJ and all who were concerned. Everything was okay.
