The Cavern Club Old and New.

I've been there too. Several times. That's where I got my information. I'm beginning to wonder if you actually read my original post.

The new cavern is on the site of the original. The entrance is at the opposite side however. I was told this on the magical mystery tour bus last summer. (I'm a 4 hour drive from Liverpool) The tour guide was from Liverpool and incedently played the part of Pete Shotton in a US movie about John and Yoko. He showed us photo evidence, as to the original location etc. Perhaps the next time you are in Liverpool, you should put him right Nancy

Come on Stuart, of course I did. There just seems to be confusion because you kept saying "on the original site" and "turned 90 degrees" and such. Eeee Cor Blimey's post and photo of where the old door was made sense. Please just re-read that post on page 1 of this thread.

I did look at it. If the new site was built on the original site, but the entrance was at the opposite end, then the entrance would be several feet down the street... I was just wondering why you wrote - " some of us have been there "
-
As I said. Take it up with the local tour guide. His explanation made sense to me.

*confused* Because some of us have as well. I guess we will just have to leave it. It would be so much easier for you to explain in person and make a drawing. (or if we were both actually on Mathew St. right now)

With respect Nancy, it's really clear to me. By site, I mean same area of land. The entrance in the new cavern club is at the opposite end to the old cavern club, but both clubs are built on the same place .

Apparently in the new bit of the club, to the left of the stage, up where the bar is. Is where the location of the original stage was, there is a marker to say so, along with a Julia Baird poster of the Cavern wall...
I didn't know that. I'm going to have a look when I'm there next week.

Given that the new Cavern is quite a few feet deeper than the original one, I'm going to be interested in learning how high up the wall this marker is?

An architect posted this on Facebook. The blue is the old Cavern. The yellow is the new Cavern. The green is where the new Cavern overlaps the old.
With my plan, you can tell exactly where you are standing in the current Cavern club and what you were standing over in the original! For instance: 1. the bar servery area of the smaller stage in new Cavern is located just about over the original Cloak Room.
2. the cloak room of the new is direct center of the main tunnel of the original Cavern.
3. the larger stage and part of the dance floor of the new Cavern is located directly above the bottom of the stairs where the paydesk was in the original Cavern.
4. the ladies toilet of the new Cavern is located almost directly over the location of the toilet entrance of the original Cavern.Interestingly, there is NO overlap of the new Cavern with the area of the original stage of the original Cavern.
