What Did Your Parents Think of The Beatles?

One of my last memories of my Mom was from when she was already in a nursing home. I went to visit & she looked at my Tshirt & she said...who are those 4 guys? I told her to guess. And she guessed correctly.

MaccaScruff, I am saddened to hear of the loss of your mom. I lost my mom two years ago and miss her terribly. She grew to really love The Beatles over the years and would tell me so when I played them. I had the pics from The White album when I moved he after college back in 1983 and I remember her telling me that she though George was the best looking of the four. My dad who I lost in 1999 was born in 1913 and in later years I don't remember that he had a terribly strong opinion on them either way. I know he enjoyed the orchestrated versions of their songs on FM radio back in the 1970s. I do know that he was certainly well aware of them. I'm sure he liked songs like Michelle and Yesterday much better than songs like Revolution. I think around 1985 I asked him (as a little test) if he'd ever heard of Jimi Hendrix and he replied "yes, of course." I remember being a bit surprised by his answer, but he was an avid reader of The New York Times. It felt good that my mom really loved listening to The Beatles in the later 70s and after. She even enjoyed Pink Floyd and The Doors which was a big step!

My mom would hear them on the radio, and say, "Is that those Beagles again?" "Yeah, mom. It's those Beagles."

My parents were from the older generation. My mom always thought Paul was very cute and watched him on Tv. She loved the music. My dad hated them and thought it was drug music and blamed it for me becoming psychedelic and giving up my path of science. My dad once yelled at me for playing Lucy in the Sky once on a tape recorder in the kitchen. Both hated Lennon. they thought he was too rebellious and brought out that side of me. My mom was indifferent to Ringo until I recently played his newer stuff and she loved it. She always knew I had a soft spot for George and always ask me which one he is.

My mom always liked Paul - glad she got to hear him live with me in 2009.

When I was 12 years old I got to experience The Beatles, oh what a time. My Pa would leave me a quarter everyday after he knew my chores were done and off I would go to the store, yep 5 packs of Beatle cards for 25 cents, and still have many of them. Magazines, albums and my parents would buy them for me. My Pa always said that I was wasting my money and that they wouldn't last, well Pa I'm sorry we loss you when I was 14 but boy you were wrong, they changed the music world and in hard times the music helped this girl so much. My Ma never said too much, but she loved watching me enjoying the music with the stereo I got for Christmas. I don't know how they would feel about my tattoo of The Beatles on my leg but all I know is when I grow old and pass on, they will always be with me and that is a great thing.

Sounds like your parents were quite kind to you. Around that time I think I had an allowance of a quarter a week! That was around the time when baseball cards were also five cents per pack for five cards and a stick of bubble gum. My parents also surprised me one Christmas a few years later with a stereo turntable and speakers--it's one of the nice gifts I got from them over the years that I most fondly remember.
