I am so sorry to hear of Ben E. Kings passing. I love "Stand By Me." May he rest in peace.
-
Sigh... I really should get familiar with more of his work. Most of us know him through one great song, and I suspect we're missing a lot.

Love stand by me

"Spanish Harlem" and his version of "Moon River" are great. "This Magic Moment," sung with The Drifters, is outstanding, too.

Lennon's version is amazing. It took me years to realize it wasnt a Lennon original.

LOVE Lennon's version. And Paul even had a go at it singing with Ben E King... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/tvshowbiz/video-1180137/Ben-E-King-sings-Stand-By-Me-Paul-McCartney.html

Paul sounds great on that. And King seemed to bask in that moment. Also: As a lifelong James Brown fan, I had NO IDEA that JB ever crossed paths with Macca, so this footage is extra-cool for me.

R.I.P. Ben E. King. Love "Stand By Me" but I have to admit that I associate it even stronger with John Lennon. I've played "Rock 'N' Roll" a lot but perhaps also because the video where Lennon sings the song was shown much on television when he was shot in 1980. I was only 12-13 but already a big Beatles/Beatle fan. It made an impression.

I saw BB play in the 70's. I'm not a musician, but when I saw him play I knew I had never seen or heard anything like it before. He was gentle with his Lucille, it made the music sweet. I'll never forget him.

Lovely sentiment, but this thread is about Ben E. King, not B.B. King.
