I don't mean to offend anybody, but if they were official , they would be available in Britain and the States, two of the biggest music markets.

If it's a bootleg it's very high quality. It comes with a professionally done booklet, a folded poster, OBI strip, and disc sleeves with graphics. It has the number 29 in the green apple so it looks like this is the 29th of a set and there's references to 28 albums inside the booklet. Something about the booklet makes me think it's not really created by EMI/Odeon so it could very well be a high quality bootleg. It's a shame this one was not included in the US albums set.

Take a look at EMI Odeon Stereo EAS-77009-10 This CD does not appear to be a bootleg.

The question is whether the "Mini-LP" CDs are legit or not. I cannot seem to find any release info to corroborate. The issue number EAS-77009-10 can be traced to the Odeon vinyl LP release. I know the CDs look like perfect replicas in every way. But are they "official"?

I highly doubt they are official releases. For starters I don't think they would use original vinyl serial numbers on CD reissues. I checked out Rock n Roll Music and Love Songs on Amazon. In the product details they don't even have a Label listed like EMI Odeon or Toshiba or whatever label Universal/EMI/Capitol Japan issue under these days. I believe these are really bootlegs and find it amazing Universal and Apple don't stop Amazon selling them.

Listen to the song they sing,
          Awakening

Mine does say EMI/Odeon on it in several places including the OBI strip. The OBI also contains the Apple logo with the number 29 in it.

There seems to be a stack of Japanese Beatles bootlegs available on Amazon. I cant believe Amazon are not being slapped with legal writs to cease selling this stuff.

Unless they are officially licensed by Apple for Japanese release only and they are limited releases. I believe that to be the case. I have seen other Japanese "mini-LP's", Led Zeppelin in particular, and they are highly desirable CDs. In some cases they are even special remasters. I have a mini-LP of Physical Graffiti and it is an exact replica down to the smallest detail, even with the cut-out windows on the cover, and the sound is incredible.

Well if they are licensed for Japanese release only. The fact that they available worldwide on Amazon defeats this kind of restriction. In this internet age there is really no such things as borders when it comes to buying goods. They tried to do it with region zones for DVD, to try and battle piracy and protect manufacturing in Europe & America from cheap imports from China & SE Asia etc, but it failed. I don't think they bother anymore making DVD's only playable in certain regions.

Actually they do, because the DVD's have to be compatible with the machines made for those countries. Blu-ray may be different however.

Yes you are quite right that DVD's are stll made for 6 different regions and Blu-ray is also region specific but there are just 3 regions . But as people have posted in this thread it seems quite easy to get players that will play any DVD no matter what region.
