Paul is a multi-millionaire. Despite what some people would like to believe, he is more than comfortable hanging out with his financial peers (and if it's also a payday for him, no worries!). Paul's social circle may exclusively consist of Very Wealthy People. And what's wrong with that? Did you see the list of artists who had previously performed at this conference?
Stop. This isn't "hanging out with his peers." This is another gig to play for more people who really don't care about his music. To be fair it was a "secret" gig that was not announced. I just wish he would do something like this for fans on this forum, for example, at a secret location and play a bunch of rarities or solo tunes. Like it or not, it does not look cool for a billionaire to be playing for a bunch of other billionaires. It really not in the spirit of rock n roll or of the Beatles. No matter what you think or say.
Well said. That pretty much summarizes why this creeps me out. Hey, Paul can play for whomever he wants, but still...

Sellout.

Will Paul McCartney do something that's actually cool ever again?

As I said the other day on another thread, it seems like Paul can do no right nowadays around here. I know everybody is entitled to their opinions and I have no problem with that, but lately it seems around here if Paul were to sneeze somebody will tell him he's doing it wrong. It's fine to criticize and give opinions, but lately it seems that is all that is done here, no matter what Paul does.

Could it be because ... we're right?

Opinions are that, opinions. Doesn't mean everything said is correct, that's why they are called opinions. Are there things Paul has done in the past that I don't like? YES. Are there songs he's done I'm not a huge fan of? YES. But I'm not going to stop respecting him or call him a sellout just because I don't agree with some things. He's a human, we all do things other people aren't always going to like. It's not like he's standing over you threatening to buy this, buy that, go to my concerts! We've all made the choices to purchase his albums and other items, etc.

He hasn't been "cool" since 1976!

No "Everybody Out There." "Do some good before you say goodbye." Or not.

Many of you are being simply ridiculous (the usual suspects). The tone of this entire message board has been shrouded in negativity for months now and this is the final straw for me. This will be my last post for a long while, not that I expect anyone to notice let alone care. But you've taken a place that once was about coming together for a common love of the Beatles, Paul McCartney and the music and have turned it into something unrecognizable - all because you don't agree with his tour stops, his setlists, and his decisions to play gigs like this. Peace and love to all the "fans."

Many here seem to have this attitude and, imo, that's totally ridiculous! We are not in the Sixties anymore, people. Get Over It :

I am actually surprised at the attitudes of some people on this forum. Is this place only for folks who adore and worship McCartney and never, ever question anything he does? If it is, someone should put those words on the front page of this fan forum and I won't come here anymore. People who want Paul to do cool things and play their town ARE great fans!! A couple of years ago, Paul had about a week off between dates in Texas and California and I was hoping he might fit a concert date in Albuquerque or El Paso or something. Instead, he played a corporate event in Las Vegas to a bunch of suits who texted through his concert. That bothered me. Am I supposed to say that was the coolest thing he ever did or that he could have done? Why is it a downer to think maybe instead of this corporate event he could have done some surprise gigs in smaller places for less money? For REAL fans??? I am too old for fan worship and adoration. Maybe some of you aren't. And I am sorry some of us aren't just glowing over everything Beatle Paul does, no matter what it is. Of course, he can do whatever he wants! But he is a public figure who seems to want to sell his product to people. So we can discuss and critique what he does. It doesn't mean we hate him or anything. But my gosh, some of the adoring and worshipping and defending is just pathetic.

No. You don't speak for everyone here. Pretty arrogant of you to think you know better than Paul McCartney what he should and shouldn't do, where and what to play...over and over, thread after thread.

Nobody, including me, has said nobody can have their opinions or question what Paul does. As I said in my second post on this thread, there has been stuff Paul has done that I haven't liked. What I was saying is that lately it seems as if Paul can't do anything right by some of the folks here, no matter what he does. He gives away free downloads, people complain, he does this and that thing people complain. I don't worship the man, but I am a big fan and I just don't understand how so many people can just be so negative all the time about every single thing, everyday.

Paul is a great artist, but he's also an entertainer. It's tempting to elevate great artists to rarefied air and some like to stay there. I like Paul's willingness to share his show in different venues. Of course there's money involved, but that does not lessen Paul. It pays the artists and their crew. Jobs are good!

It's a forum. Everyone's allowed their views. As disparate or disjointed as they may be. Ride on and through. What a boring world we would live in if everyone was on the same page.

I agree. There's plenty of room here for diverse opinions and points of view.
