A terrific website. Not that I want to gloat, but as one who is fortunate enough to have been inside Abbey Road (a competition winner, nothing as glamorous as being a musical genius), everything looks bigger than I recall. But, then again, that whole trip was a blur.

^ What kind of competition?

^ What kind of competition?
The major paper here had a competition marking the release of Flaming Pie. Airfare to London, five nights accommodation and a tour of Abbey Road. All one had to do was ring a number and leave their details, which I did about two minutes before the midnight deadline. To say I was stunned to find out I won is an understatement. The airline involved was a disgrace - they blocked certain periods when we wanted to travel, moved us from our seats once we'd boarded, and then on the layover to London tried to bump us from the flight (at which point I kicked up one big fuss... and won) Funny thing was we walked into the studio and announced we were there as the competition winners. Confused looks were flung everywhere. None of them knew about it. They floundered about and got some engineer to walk us around. Very unprofessional. But hey, we got to go into Abbey Road, so all good! A wonderful experience. I don't remember a lot about it except it was a short tour and I knew more about the Beatles' place in Abbey Road folklore than the engineer did. He was pretty lame. 24-hour trip there and a 24-hour trip back, with five days in between (four really, by the time we arrived) it was damn tiring. But hey, still the trip of a lifetime! I was very, very lucky. Still pinching myself!

Incredible story! Obviously, the experience could have been better, but still must have been pretty exciting. When I went in 1992, I couldn't get past the front door; I just talked to someone briefly. Did you see other Beatle-related sites?

Great story Toris. I thought the competition may have involved answering some Beatles related questions. So lucky to have won such a big prize!
