New video at Rolling Stone site today. I've heard Paul tell the story of the cracked van windshield which Mal Evans punched out--necessitating the construction of a "Beatle sandwich" to keep from freezing. But seeing it portrayed is hilarious!! http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/the-beatles-cavort-in-new-clip-for-words-of-love-20131116

Wonder how the poor driver kept from freezing--how far is Liverpool from London, anyway?

212 miles (driving) 176 miles as the crow flies.

What...did you google that Nancy?

Thanks, Nancy. I'd somehow got it in my head that Liddypool is at least 500 miles or more from London!

I've read that that particular trip took something like 12 hours! No motorways at that time, and was a 5 hour drive normally. But with the snowstorm, and getting lost, it took them that much longer! (Did you notice Buddy Holly sitting in the audience in the new video, while they performed his song? Nice touch!)

Yeah it was lucky one of the boys didn't have any body odor. that would of been a very unpleasant drive. not only are you cold but your smelling funk at the same time.

To tell the truth, I'd thought Liverpool is actually 600 miles or more from London ops: Nobody's answered my query, how did the driver of the van, Neill Aspinall (or was it Mal Evans?) keep from just about freezing to death....he didn't get to be in a Beatle sammy (sandwich) Or 'jam buttie" is that what they called sandwiches in England?

This was 60's Britain, the journey did not entail a blast-freezingly chilling 100 mph superhighway dash. It'd have been A roads at much lower speeds - I doubt if their battered van did much more than 50 mph downhill with a good wind behind anyway. It would have only been equipped with the most rudimentary of heaters - mainly to clear the steamed up windscreen so coats, hats, gloves and scarves would have been the order of the day anyway - windscreen or no windscreen. Yeah, Martin is correct. And btw Susy, there's this thing called "Google" where you can look up all kinds of things! https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=&oq=jam+buttie&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADRA_enUS429US429&q=jam+butties&gs_l=hp..0.0j0i22i30l2.0.0.0.9771...........0.gHh81OW_12w&pbx=1
