I missed it, are there going to be more showings on PBS?
Our local PBS station is showing it again tonight, so you may want to keep an eye out on yours!
I'm on it paulfan11, thanks for the info. EDIT - Thank you paulfan11, Nancy and oobu, I'm going to get my chance to record it and put it onto disc! I'm on my way home so I can turn on my DVD recorder and record it at 7:30 PM Central time. Thanks again guys! ANOTHER EDIT! Thanks guys, I just recorded it! I LOVE THIS DOCUMENTARY!
Yay! So glad you caught it tonight!
If it wouldn't have been for you three, I never would have recorded it! It was great! Thanks again!
I downloaded it yesterday. Ready to put on a dvd. Did you know that Howard Goodall also made another documentary about Paul & John?
Hi oobu! I heard about that, I have to find that documentary too. Its pretty obvious that Howard Goodall is a hard core Beatles fan!
He's also interviewed in Ron Howard's movie "Eight Days A Week: The Touring Years. Compared The Beatles to Schubert and Mozart.

There is something wrong with my Real Player! The videos are shown there, but when I try to play any of them, it says they can't find them!

I caught part of this last night on a rebroadcast on my local PBS station. Alas, it was late and I could only watch the first half hour, but it seemed fascinating.

You need to uninstall Real Player then reinstall it.

Well, I had a chance to watch this Monday evening and what I thought was going to be an hour and a half show was actually 58 minutes and change. The rest was taken up with pledge drives, or as my dad used to refer to it, "begging".
I'm glad it was on the PVR so I could skip right by that, although, obviously, I do understand why they have to do it. As for the show itself, I thought it was very well done and Mr. Goodall did a superb job talking about the songs, influences, recording techniques and the styles.

I agree the special was extremely well-done and informative and I am enjoying everything in the super deluxe version, too. All this made me remember that I have George Martin's 1995 definitive book on Pepper and I dug it out of my bookcase. It's called "With A Little Help From My Friends" (The Making Of Sgt. Pepper) by George Martin with William Pearson, 1994, Little Brown & Company. George Martin describes in detail how the each song was constructed, along with reactions to how the music was developing. It's a definitive account of the album, in my opinion. The book is pretty expensive now, being out of print, but it is available on ebay and Amazon, and other out-print bookseller sites, though perhaps public libraries have copies.
-
I thought I had that book, but I don't see it on my list I keep. Will double check tomorrow. Maybe I just forgot to write it down.
-
I found it on Amazon for $69.11.

I watched the Howard Goodall thingy (spread over a couple of days cos busybusy!), not sure what a casual would've thought of it, very technical in parts. I wish they'd repeat the south bank show special on pepper (was it 92?), i have it on video somehwre, unless it was one of the mouldy ones i had to throw out a couple fo years ago!
