Who has been a Beatles fan for 50 years?
-
It sure brings memories flooding back for me. I was sitting (squirming? Laughing ) on my Grandmother's knee waiting for the Beatles--and my fav Paul--to come on and perform. I was barely school-age. I still get shivers thinking about it. I sure want that CD 2014 collection real baaaaad. Gonna get it end of this month. Have to wait--no money till then.

Had to post that our radio station has been playing non stop Beatles since yesterday, and all through the weekend! It is CRAZY and I LOVE it! I mean every song is The Beatles! I was not born yet when they came to America. I was born during the Let It Be time.

Hey kittay, do you have the name of that radio station? I tried that yesterday. I went to WINS in New York (Murray the K turf) on the Net and they are all news now, but no celebrations as yet. I'm looking for Beatlemania on the radios of America! But I'll settle for online listening.

Here it is! http://q961fm.com/ I am going to need BEATLES rehab after this weekend. Helping me have energy to pack up and move as well.

Hey kitay, Thank you. It's Alive!

iHeart Radio is doing a Beatles 24/7 thing this weekend. http://www.iheart.com/live/All-Beatles-Stones-Radio-5708/?autoplay=true

I wish The Beatles were on the radio 24/7, 365 days a year! This weekend has been great! I will hate when they stop playing the music after tonight.

Indy radio stations sux. Never play good 60s or Beatles, hardly ever. It's very disconcerting. :

Sorry I'm so late getting to this thread but wanted to comment. I was 7 1/2 when I first saw The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in Feb 1964. I was just mesmerized by their performance even at that tender age. Loved Paul and his hair right away, he was so cute to me. I seem to recall having heard Beatles songs on the radio and liking them before that date but not knowing what the guys looked like at all or even what their full individual names were. What I REALLY remember most from watching the show that night was how the big-haired women in the audience acted. Really wild and a little insane, it just made no sense to me...all for four guys they had never met and probably NEVER would meet. These ill-behaved women were a far cry from any women I had seen at home, church or school. Surely not a one of them had ever experienced the crack of a ruler on the palm of a hand in Catholic school discipline or they wouldn't have been carrying on in such an uncivilized way. But I digress. I was waiting for the show to start that fateful night and I asked my mom (who was 10-15 years older than most of my friend's moms) what "the twist" in "Twist and Shout" was. To my surprise, she proceeded to teach me the dance. She told me to move my one leg in a way that looked like I was trying to snuff out a lit cigarette on the ground with my foot. And at the same time I was supposed to move the middle half of my body like I had just taken a bath and I was rubbing myself dry with the back and forth motion of a big towel. It seemed a bit awkward to me...I'd do one part but not the other, it took a minute or two to get synchronized... but after considerable practice I did get the hang of it and I was all set to watch "The Beatles" in a proper way now that I knew how to twist. I still can picture my mom and I sitting in anticipation on the sofa in front of the one black and white tv in our entire house...the tv that was really a piece of furniture with four legs and it had rabbit ear antennas. I prayed that this would not be one of those nights when the picture tube would go on the fritz and I'd see squiggly lines appearing at the top and bottom of the screen in a rolling fashion. If that had happened I would have felt compelled to wrap the antennas with tin foil and then stand there holding them while balancing myself on one leg looking east or some crazy ritual like that. Kids today don't know how lucky they are compared to the "good old days"! In any case, the tv set was fine that night and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the shaggy-haired Beatles. I would always remember this event, where I was, who I was with, long after that evening when I twisted for the first time...just as I would always recall the Kennedy assassination which had only happened three months earlier. Second grade was turning out to be quite the memorable year for me. For many others too. Looking forward to the next 50 years of being a Beatles fan! If I'm not on this side of the grass in 50 years then I hope there is a Beatles section of heaven where I'll finally get to see the four lads perform in person. Look for me. I'll be the one shrieking and doing the twist with my dear mom.

I first saw The Beatles on The Jack Paar Show in January of 1964...It was a film clip from October of 1963. I was 11 years and 5 months old.

Wow! Thank you. Their hair was a lot shorter than when they came over in Feb.

Thank you very much, Steven, that was very enjoyable to watch. I had never seen or heard of that before. (My 27 year old daughter was sitting next to me as I watched this video and her only question was "Who's Jack Paar?" This is the same daughter who told me when she was in college that even if she had been able to bring Paul McCartney to campus for a free concert she didn't think anyone would show up to watch. What are we going to do with this younger generation???) "

Some of the posters claimed that this was not the clip Jack Paar showed, that the one he actually showed had no sound. Strange. I remember seeing a clip about the fact that Paar showed them first, but I can't remember if I have a copy of it. Have to do some checking.

Great story! I have a 27 year old daughter too, who is not a fan, but thankfully her twin brother is, so he likes to go with me to Beatles tribute band concerts.

You and Scarlett14 are quite welcome! I watched this LIVE on The Jack Paar Show when it first aired (with sound). But, I'm still waiting on confirmation from Moses' sister!

I know that was a dig to me, but if you had read exactly what I said was that "some posters thought it was without sound" and I thought that was strange. I remember seeing a clip about it (not the actual broadcast that you saw) In other words, I believed you!
