Was Paul REALLY the Walrus??

^^ There is no way on earth it is cranberry sauce. Listen to it. Not that it matters anyway. And the video: the military plane...why does the military play such a big role in the later Beatles? Think about it.

I am addressing the question "WHY would Lennon say such a random thing?" raised by some who doubt that it is "cranberry sauce". I am suggesting there are reasons - the resonance with the "berries", the reported Thanksgiving conversation, and John's known love of associative wordplay. I don't know about the Thanksgiving bit. But there may be another factor. it was late December when they finished the final takes and cranberry sauce is traditionally eaten with turkey for the Christmas meal in Britain. I read somewhere that according to George Martin he actually asked John why he mumbled "cranberry sauce" and John retorted, "Well, it's nearly Christmas!" (I can't source that quote off-hand.) As to the factual question of whether or not "cranberry sauce" was actually recorded: Well neglecting the George Martin reference just alluded to, engineer Geoff Emerick says that it was "cranberry sauce", Paul McCartney (1974) says it was "cranberry sauce", and John Lennon in his Playboy interview (1980) said, "I said cranberry sauce. That's all I said." (http://www.beatlesinterviews.org/dbjypb.int3.html)) I suppose that is the smoking gun, wouldn't you say? As for saying it doesn't matter, fair enough, But it matters enough to those here to have compiled this thread, and we have both chipped in, so it must mean something Strath

Hate to burst your bubble, but John is saying "cranberry sauce." It is slowed down though, so it's not in his normal speaking voice. (not that it matters to you anyway)

Yep, Sugar Plum (fairy) and cranberry.... seemed to be a consistent theme in John's intros and outros at that time... whether they be part of the official release or not.

I loved it when I heard recordings of him counting Sugar Plum Fairy

Nancy I guess you are attacking me on behalf of another person...but then you might have been there in the studio, when they were recording, and therefore I am wrong since I was not there. Thanks for bursting my bubble. I think I will live through it all.

First of all, I am not attacking you and second of all, I did not post this on anyone else's behalf! I was just telling you the truth. As strathbarian stated, John, Paul and Geoff Emerick all said it was "cranberry sauce." (btw, I wrote my post to you before I read his)

Was Paul REALLY the Walrus??
Anyone who believes that H.E.L.P. (Higher Education, Love and Peace) are the end all to the social problems of the human race, is a Walrus. "I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together"
All you have to do is backmask the word WALRUS and you will see that it implies that LOVE is THE ANSWER!
And, this phenomenon is not of any human design.
Any other WALRUS'S out there?Â

Ummm...what?
Sorry, your post just struck my funny bone!

I know that this does not have anything to do with Beatles history and I mean no disrespect to Mr. Baxter but I always thought that Jeff "Skunk" Baxter looks a lot like a Walrus!

What's your verdict? Does he look like a Walrus?

Now we can change the lyric to "Jeff Baxter's the walrus!"
