50 Years Ago This Sunday
-
On Feb 9th it will be 50 years ago The Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan Show in New York. It sure brings memories flooding back for me. I was sitting (squirming?
) on my Grandmother's knee waiting for the Beatles--and my fav Paul--to come on and perform. I was barely school-age. I still get shivers thinking about it. Feel free to share your memories...

Gearing up for tonight!

I haven't slept a wink.
You've been up all night, just waiting?

And 53 years ago on this date the Beatles debuted at the Cavern. And 42 years ago Wings played their first gig. Weird, eh?

I didn't know Keith Urban could pick like that. WOW! Paul even seemed impressed.

They were really good!

Was Yoko rolling her eyes? LOL!!!! Does she even KNOW these songs?

Good to see Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart together again...and I really like their performance as well (I've always liked Fool on the Hill, whether performed by The Beatles, Paul on his own and even cover versions (which that was one of the better covers I've heard of this song) In fact, I'm really digging the show as a whole - like how they're intertwining segments of the Paul/Ringo/Dave Letterman interview throughout the show

Regular Grammy's got a CD release...I wonder if this will as well

Actually liking this show more than I thought I would. Very cool!

This has been bothering me, but I didn't want to spoil any surprises. So I remained silent just to see how the show handles the final edit. Several weeks ago, a couple of days after the taping, somebody on a blog reported the setlist, and that Stevie Wonder used two takes for his song. I want to set the record straight. His first take was to the surprise of the audience, with great applause, and It Was Perfect. Couldn't be better. PERFECT!. At the end of the song, the applause was wonderful. But then the producer or somebody boomed to Stevie that they needed to redo it. Take two. Either the producers wanted an alternate version to then decide later which version they would choose to use, else they or the stage director forgot to place the backup singers onstage to accompany the song. They were not a part of the first take. Without missing a beat, Stevie said "Okay" and redid the song with backup singers. Imagine being a surprise guest and introducing your contribution to an eager audience and hitting all the marks, as good as it gets, and receiving that well-earned response from the audience, and then doing it all over again while the producers want the audience to be just as enthusiastic as the first time. But we were happy to oblige. On the second take, Stevie "flubbed the harmonica", but I'm thinking he did it deliberately so that the producers will have no choice but to use that excellent first take. All the same, I am worried now because the segment with Stevie Wonder that I saw in the ad was from the second take, and you can see this when it looks like the harmonica is slipping from his lips. That never happened at all on the first take. On the first take, his harmonica was Brilliant. I for sure hope they use the first take in the show!

The show tonight was just incredible. Well done!!! Paul and Ringo were so great and both in really good voice. It was just a joy to watch and to see the wives and kids in the audience enjoying it along with them. Wish I had gone now!

___________________________________________________________ Ditto Rich. I loved Fool on the Hill Too. Annie Lennox did things to the song vocally that really soared. Actually the show was much better than I thought it would be. I was a little skepital when I first saw the list of artists performing the Fabs songs but for the most part I was impressed. Wasn't crazy about Katy Perry's version of Yesterday. Maybe others like it however. I was a little dissapointed that Emy Lou Harris wasn't there. Her versions of Here,There and Everywhere, I Will or For No One are all great. For those who haven't heard these versions, check it out on U-Tube. I did like John Legend singing Let It Be...very good voice. I also liked Hey Bulldog a lot. I thought Paul and Ringo were the highlight at the end. Ringo may not have the best voice but he is a natural performer. I thought Paul sounded great on I Saw Her Standing There and Hey Jude. I also thought that Paul and Ringo looked very happy together. It is so ironic that the 2 Beatles that liked performing the most are still around. I always thought that John and George liked the studio far better than performing.
