New London venue confirmed - Olympic Park

Live Nation is to host a series of concerts and festivals at the Olympic Park and Stadium this summer. The Wireless Festival and Hard Rock Calling - which were previously held in London's Hyde Park - are the first events confirmed for the venue. The move ends a 10-year link the concert promoter had with The Royal Parks.
Interesting developments...... Having watched sporting events from afar last year I'd love an opportunity and reason to visit the venues myself. Martin

Hyde Park shouldn't really hold gigs ts not the place for it as Bruce and Paul found out last summer,still at least we know the massive amounts of money spent on the new stadium isn't going to waste,least for a day or two anyways. The sooner a football team is installed in there the better because for it to sit empty for long periods is terrible as it looks,from what little i saw of the games a lovely place to stage sports in.

Here you go; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Park,_London The park is on the north side of the Thames across the river from the O2 Arena Paul uses regularly. The Park has a variety of indoor and outdoor venues and could host a "festival" in the full sense with room for a variety of different stages within the fully established Park with catering and toilets facilities already in-situ. Hyde Park concerts will continue under a new promoter: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21162252 AEG have snapped up the licence that LiveNation surrendered to take on the Olympic Park. The outcome being a battle of the venues - with the winner being concert fans in the London area. My personal take on noise issues with temporary venues such as Hyde Park is that wherever such events take place the neighbourhood is inconvenienced, and usually the noise is the least of the issues with access being denied to otherwise public areas for weeks on end, heavy trucks and lifting equipment working assembling the temporary stages, large crowds gathering prior to admission, parking issues, litter etc. Hyde Park is no exception to that rule. Hyde Park has run for many years without the press coverage that Bruce Springsteen (and Paul) brought when his set was prematurely shut down with the power switch being thrown. It's why councils only licence the venues for limited periods. Olympic Park should be more available due to it's many permanent features. Dates and artists are apparently due to be announced shortly. Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z are the first artists confirmed to headline concerts at London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The stars will top the bill on separate nights of the Wireless festival on 12 and 13 July.

The article also goes on the say the former Hyde Park concerts will continue with AEG Live as promoter under the festival name "British Summer Time" starting on the 28th June. Bruce Springsteen will return to London this year to finish what he never ended
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21660450Bruce Springsteen has agreed to return as a headline act at London's Hard Rock Calling festival despite organisers pulling the plug on his show last year after it over-ran. He will play again with The E Street Band at the event's new location at the Olympic Park this summer. Kasabian will also headline, playing their only UK festival. Other performers over the final weekend in June include Paul Weller, The Black Crowes and Klaxons.
Hopefully the noise guidelines will be less stringent at the new venue. I suspect the Mayor Of London will have a quiet word in the noise police's ear ahead of this gig. He won't want a repeat of the bad publicity last years curfew power cut brought. Shows 29th & 30th June, Kasabian on the 29th, Bruce Springsteen on the 30th. Martin

I hope Paul doesn't do a concert here. I was lucky enough to be there a few times for the Olympics and, though the atmosphere is amazing, it would seem like no matter how 'close' you are to the stage, you wouldn't be close enough. He'd look like an ant, even in the better seats. I guess I'd prefer more intimacy. The Royal Albert Hall was perfect. I hope he plays there again. It should be less about selling huge stadiums of people who want to hear Hey Jude 30 times, and more about the fact that Paul is a respected artist with great work that spanned way beyond the Beatles that can be played to more attentive, smaller audiences who appreciate him in a more fuller form. The next year he performed at Hyde Park himself. So if he does go along - personal appearance or not - if he's impressed with the venue and organisation, we might get to see him at the venue in 2014...... After all he's checked out the venue and Park already having attended the momentous 2012 Olympics as a punter with his family, so he's a good idea of it's potential already. Idle thoughts only... Nothing wrong with that. You do know that HRC is not being held inside the Olympic Stadium, tho? It's going to be in some sectioned off area of the Park, apparently. I think Paul would prefer a concert inside the stadium.

Well I joined the internet ticket fray today.... Not for Paul but for the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games being held in the The Stadium in the Olympic Park. http://www.britishathletics.org.uk/british-athletics-series/sainsburys-anniversary-games/ We tried to get seats - for anything - last year to no avail, so tried for and secured four tickets to this event. An afternoon of international althetics in the Olympic Stadium - hopefully recreating the atmosphere of last year. My wife is delighted to be getting the chance to visit the Olympic Park and her iPhone will be doing overtime recording the visit. Her FaceBook will be doing overtime that day
