Suffering for your Art
-
Today in my photography class we had to do self portraits in some creative manner. I had my face painted white with a crazy intricate black design, and it truly looked great as did the photo. To catch the bus I didn't have time to wipe it off so I just left with it. My friends in the hallway told me it was very awesome...but then I ran into the prep girls who thought it would be great to call me clown face and throw pencils at me on the bus. Whoever said high schoolers were mature was seriously disturbed. I'm sorry if this is like a ramble of my problem but I just wanted to know if anyone has been openly put down for some artistic thing they've tried.

My advice would be to listen to those who are already where you are trying to go to... other creative people who are successful in your field. If you listen to the people who never made it to where you are aspiring to go... or to those who never will make it there, then you won't get there either...
: I've found creative people to be an especially kind and caring group and very supportive too... ask for help... it's there... you have to ask though... no one is a mind reader...
Hope that helps some

Couldn't have said it better myself
Another way to suffer is to work a normal day to day average job that sometimes will satisfy you and sometimes won't come close .... while you know that you have an art / creative potential that sits there - oh maybe once in awhile you dust it off and spend a bit of time being creative .... and wonder how you and why you got away from it .... and how could anyone have talked you out of it? And how could you have listened so easily to them .... before you gave your heart and your dreams a chance ..... until you decide to keep going with it .... or get that average job that sometimes gives you a grin - hopefully you will not look back and wonder what could have, would have, should have (coulda, woulda, shouda) happened.

These words ring so true for me Fool... sadly...all for a pension and most of the time, something that does not come close at all....I guess I'll have the creative retirement plan...

yeah, it is kinda like standing at the crossroads and not knowing which way to go. And maybe you sat too long wondering and lost your chance. Don't listen to anyone but yourself, that is my advice. I should know.

You spend your whole life listening to advice from people telling you play it safe... don't don't don't ... it seems it should be JUST DO IT instead... I would never have bought my first house alone or traveled alone if I listened to well meaning friends...

With me, it's OTHER people doing the suffering for my "Art." When it comes to singing, I've got a hell of a voice; when I start singing, folks feel like they're in Hell!
