Up and Coming live Painting of Paul 2010!

This is a large drawing I'm doing of the Beatles in Hamburg 1960, from a famous photo by Astrid Kirchherr..... I love the abstract background, made by beams and an old fairground! although they do look very serious......

a study I've done of the very beautiful Nancy Shevell.

KW, love the portrait of Nancy. You know she is so lucky Paul takes her with him on his tours. He must really love her not to leave her at home.

thanks hey_kittay, I agree - it must be a privilege to see Paul perform live at so many shows. It's great for his fans in South America that Paul is playing Brazil and Argentina, and wish him well for those shows.... following on from the study, here is the watercolour painting of Nancy. I hope Paul and Nancy are OK with this, as I don't always agree with the media and press hounding Paul sometimes..... everyone is entitled to a respected private life, and no matter how famous sometimes the press go too far - my opinion. Anyway, I hope they find happiness together....Paul has been through some tough times and deserves to find happiness where he can, really that goes for everyone....as happiness is sometimes a precious and rare thing! Nancy looks like a Hollywood film star I think in the picture... complete with sun glasses!
P.S forgot to say, I love the backdrop Paul uses in his live show... where he shows paintings by Richard Prince?..I think he should sneak this one in of Nancy! with my approval of course! Kevin. I'm trying hard to think which song it is...my guess is Paperback writer.....but might be wrong. I recall the portraits with masks on.... good paintings...work well with the music.

This is just a small cartoon I've knocked up to celebrate the forthcoming re-release of Paul's classic and superb album Band on the Run......
-
here are some stills from my attempt at an animation.. the full crazy video is on youtube / this site Band on the Run competition...!
-
....I've just bought the remastered editions of the Beatles 1962-66 and 1967-70 cds. Great compilations of classic tracks. They have done a superb job with the new remasters. to celebrate those releases I've done this affectionate cartoon of the beatles....!
-
this one is the companian to the 1967-70.......when I was looking at the previous one it just looked as though the Beatles were looking over the ridge of a river bank, as the faces are exagerated and distorted in cartoon fashion..... so I've put in a ripple..... the Beatles looking into the future.... (in ancient times they looked into reflective surfaces to forcast the future like an oracle) or it reminds of the sixties timetunnel TV sci-fi show! Or causing waves!

During Pauls live show there is always a very touching moment, when he performs 'Here Today'..... he wrote the song with an imaginary conversation in mind......below is a painting of John and Paul I've done with a conversation they did have. It's during the photo shoot for the Abbey Road album cover - one of my favourite Beatles albums..the medley at the end is superb! Linda McCartney took the photograph which I think captures the great friendship and bond that existed between John and Paul really well.

Thanks calicoskych2001, John and Pauls friendship was very special and Linda being a very talented photographer captured it really well. I saw Paul and the band on the Jools Holland show last night here in the UK, and two tremendous live version of 'Jet' and 'Band on the Run' were performed. Two classic songs, hopefully the re-releases will do well as they deserve to.....I'd buy it a hundred times over it's so good an album, in fact I think I have nearly bought it that many times! just kidding, love the album so much (I beleive there will be different versions as bonus tracks). I can't believe how good Paul looked, he never ages, just always has a wonderful youthful appearance when he's on stage. It must be great for Paul to be able to draw upon a huge back cataglogue of superb songs, and any addition he makes in terms of new material is always fresh and exciting... talking of fresh from Apple, I bought the very good compilation cd 'Come and get it' and it's a great collection of artists who were on the Beatles label, recommended. I especially like the at one time 'controvertial' King of Fuh', as I love the wierd and experimental playful tracks.....

thanks feact, for the feedback on the videos. Not sure what Simon Cowell, Louie and Cheryl Cole would make of it though..... maybe I'd get an 'x'rated response...hmm..better not enter that talent contest I'd be thrown out I think... glad you like the Paul and John one hey_kittay. Here's one I've done of Paul from about 1977...Mull of Kintyre time, I think Paul looks great in the photo... which is why I chose it to do.

I think that is a lovely one too Kevin. Gee, you are surrounded by so much art in your home, it must be very nice to be there with your creations. Do you like to paint alone...or do you mind someone watching you for a bit? I just wondered as you know the old saying how an artist never likes anyone to see his/her art till it is finished? Cheers, Kittay.

thanks hey_kittay, it is a bit cramped I must admit, surrounded by paintings...! Seriously, art is really great to have to look at, and I'm fortunate I've got other artists works to inspire and look at in a different way. Usually I'm alone, but when you're doing a drawing or painting I find that you lock yourself away from distractions and fully become absorbed into what you are doing. I'm sure that must be the case with any creative process. On occassions I might think a picture is completed, but then look at at after a few days and see it in a different way.... seeing that some parts are wrong, I guess that is being too close to what you're doing at the time and not seeing it properly.

thanks appletart2, I love pop art, and the Sgt Pepper cover is of course a very iconic image, by Peter Blake.. I like the way pop artists combined media, with photographic images along side painted images etc.. and reminds me of the early twentieth century movements in art with the use of collage and montage. here is a painting I've done of Paul's daughter Mary McCartney- who is a talented photographer, and I believe has a book out and exhibition of her work... Kevin.
