There is a direct connection between the production of livestock and Global Warming http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ingrid-newkirk/a-green-message-from-the_b_403908.html http://www.letsactnow.org/UN-Report/ Where the environment is concerned, eating meat is like driving a 16-wheeler and leaving the engine running all the time. Eating a vegetarian diet is like riding a motorbike, and eating a vegan diet is like riding a bicycle. the average vegan uses about one-sixth of an acre of land to satisfy his or her food requirements for an entire year; the average vegetarian requires about three times as much land; and the average meat-eater requires about 20 times as much land. It takes about four times as much water to feed a vegetarian as it does to feed a vegan and 14 times as much water to feed a meat-eater.

Thanks for posting - found your statistics especially surprising. Shows a big difference even between veggie and vegan!

Hi James It really is amazing how much meat and meat products influence global warming. Once someone becomes veggie it seems a good idea to then try to eliminate some dairy too! it's such a simple solution to such a huge problem.

You are aware the humans give off these same gasses and nobody wants to talk about overpopulation's contributions to global warming.

perhaps you should start your own thread

When is global warming going to start harming the earth? We all know about global warming, and how it is causing the ice to melt, the earth getting polluted, and all the other things happening to the earth, like rising temperatures and such, but when is it really going to come into effect? When will we experience everything? In 5 or 10 years? In 100 years? In 1000 years? in 10 000 years?

Actually, many glaciers are starting to melt now. Bees are dissappearing and they make our food supply by pollinating the crops. No bees = no food. and it's not called Global Warming. It's called Climate Change. and yes, it is changing. The seasons aren't what they were like when I was a child. Winters are warmer. Spring and summer are colder. It's causing a bit of havock where I live. Climate Change. Get with it.
