Thanks! I don't think a lot of people realize how easy it is to go veggie, an not deplete your body of what it needs.

forum has been slow question for you starshine - as you seem extremely knowledgable in this topic as you can tell, the likelihood of me going vegetarian is getting closer and closer to being fact. i was looking at one of the sites you posted and it showed the bread and whole grains being at the bottom of the food pyramid i thought that the fruits and veggies would be what you wanted more of in your daily intake they sure didnt teach this stuff in nursing school, if you eat 6-11 servings of whole grains and cereals , well i guess that seems like alot to me is all thanks audrey

Thanks for bumping my thread. As for the grains, whole grains are very good for you and just as important as eating your fruits and veggies. But grains are not just bread, it's also rice, cereals and pasta. (People tend to eat veggies with both pasta and rice anyway) When you think about it you probably already meet the requirements for this as grains is already a large part of almost any veggie's diet. (and for them to be whole grains is very important) But don't forget that the USDA Food Pyramid also recommends a similar amount of whole grains per day. Here's a page about grains: http://www.mypyramid.gov/pyramid/grains.html

thanks so much starshine. i love your suggestions and as one who does not prefer to go to the commercial sites, i really appreciate the .gov sites. and this is great..... popcorn is a grain learn something new every day, they really should teach this stuff in nursing school, i realize i am not a dietician, but i deal with vegetarians, diabetics, folks in renal failure and am stumped when it comes to dietary recommendations counting carbs gives me a headache, and we are supposed to teach this to kids when diagnosed with diabetes...... still working on that one audrey

As a vegatarian I thrive on TVP. Textured Vegetable protien. I couldn't make chili without it. I must keep lots of cheeses in the house too.
