I accept that he needs to do some hits and a fair number of Beatles songs to keep the non-fans from getting restless, but that's easily accomplished while giving the set some variety. Bruce,Sadly He Will never drop Eleanor Rigby,Blackbird,Jet,Live and let Die,Penny Lane or long and Winding Road. I have a Couple Suggestions To Drop though: -Drive My Car -Got To Get You Into My Life -I'll Follow the Sun -Flaming Pie(GIVE US SOMETHING ELSE FROM THAT ALBUM MAN!!) And The Setlist He gave for Liverpool was perfect for them, I mean they haven't seen him Play since 2003??(Tell me if i'm Wrong) So His set has changed since then.

I agree. While I'm sure we could all dream up our 'ultimate' Paul McCartney set list, there's no way anyone should be disappointed with what he's delved out in all his tours since the 1989-90 world tour. Additionally, he works his butt off while on stage and seemingly wants to ensure we (the audience) thoroughly enjoys ourselves.

I agree. youre both insane. it isnt about an 'ultimate' set list. its about something we havent heard in a while. REAL fans want to hear stuff he hasnt played in a while, not the other way around.

After meeting Paul at the Ecce Cor Meum signing, I was determined to finally see the genius in action strumming the hofner. and eventually after a couple of years the Liverpool sound arrived. so I applied for the "premium" tickets and awaited Maccaday, with high hopes and fears of the set list. at the stadium i was amazed that i was charged £75 for the seat in the kop , £35 would be more apt - a small dot in a white shirt was all i could see , although the large screens seemed to confirm it was Paul. Liverpool Council hang your heads in shame ! On to the music, For a concert virgin who has actually shook hands with sir Paul , I was in an awkward position, as an avid fan of the best left ( and right ) bass guitarist in the world , I was hoping for electric , electric , electric , but also looking forward to the piano standards of Jude , let it be ,and live and let die. personally, I was disappointed with, in Liverpool - in Liverpool , The long and winding road and blackbird. and i loved , flaming pie, dance tonight , Calico skies, All the Grohl tracks, day in the life with "alternative" lyrics and lady Madonna and i saw her. For an international superstar like paul with the best back catalogue on the planet, I was just about happy. Overall , I was more pleased than sad and i am 70/30 about going to his next tour - if it happens. I hope and pray that we get Helter Skelter Golden Slumbers listen to what the man said helen wheels things we said today all my loving and even london Town , which is great.

REAL fans want to hear stuff he hasnt played in a while, not the other way around.
I haven't seen him since the 2005 tour. I know he's done a few shows since then, buts its not like he tours year round year after year, so to me its been a while regardless. I wouldn't mind hearing some of the suggestions from this forum, but imho if anyone has earned the right to play what he wants Paul has. The public also has the right to not buy a ticket. I'm guessing he'll still manage to sell out every venue somehow. PostScript - I think Live and Let die (probably because of the pyrotechnics) is the best live song of his repertoire even though its not one of my favorites among his vast catalogue.

Is sad to see it..but after 40 years on music bussines..He only has those 20-25 song to play in a concert..?.

It was my first Macca show and what really got to me almost straight away was hearing the inane routines inbetween the songs (or during 'Hey Jude'...the girls and boys bit) when there was actually a very real IN THE NOW event going on. There were a few little 'Anybody in from Speke?' bits but you were left feeling that Paul had not given a thought as to what he was gonna do onstage today other than go through the motions with the band. Well the 'band as therapy' game is over, Paul. This band and Paul McCartney have this incredible all-time-high position in the respect charts and have made into THE NOW but it's time to BUILD upon that by finding a GOAL in music and message. Much further along this 'greatest hits forever' line and this train will come off. Trust me. And it's not a matter that will last the forthcoming tour. The Kiev gig needs to be the last of the mode he's been in otherwise by the end of the tour he will be fending off media and fan attacks from everywhere. "This sandwich cannot be sold tomorrow"

I think after nearly 46 years as a famous rock star, Paul like the Stones,The Who,Brian Wilson,Paul Simon,Ray Davies and Bob Dylan are all regarded to a degree as oldie acts. If you have been around that long, no matter what you play, it's regarded as a nostalgia act. Regards to Paul's setlist,i think he could take out the whole lot, and still have a new song list that everyone knew.

it's obvoius after his shows in '89 the setlist will be the same for big parts, it's now 19 years later and some of you still don't understand it. Thats pretty slow. He plays for fans who haven't seen his show every tour. I did see him every tour from '89 and indeed I understand why some fans are hoping for other songs. But hey hearing a day in the life for the first time ever live was worth the trip.

Anywhoo, the only "hit's" from previous recent shows I havent heard live, but want to are Hello Goodbye, Michelle, Helter Skelter and Let Them In, but unless there are a lot of suprises in the new tour, I'll probably only be going to one show.2007 :The Roundhouse, Camden

When Wings rehearsed for their 75/76 tour,they were rehearsing pretty solidly from May to early September....basically four months. Although not a tour,the Anfield concert looked as if the band had been rehearsing for about 4 days. I've just sat through a video of the tv broadcast and was quite frankly bored. Other than a few changes of set,it didn't seem that much different to concerts in previous years. The Hey Jude singalong,the Live And Let Die fireworks/pyrotechnics....it all seems so predictable now. Of course,live concerts are for those who attend them and are not designed to be watched on tv but even so,from what I saw,there seemed a total lack of imagination in the set list and a rather bland music-by-numbers approach from what has always been a rather anonymous band. Time to give Wix the heave-ho and get someone else in with a bit more passion and bite.

OK, here are my thoughts for what they are worth... The concert was awesome. By watching on the TV you only get a small fraction of the atmosphere. I've seen Macca many times, but never with such a charged audience. 36,000 people chanting the words seemed to make it extra special. I left the gig on a real high, and remember thinking that that was probably the best I have ever seen him. To those who only watched on youTube or BBC, it really wasn't the same. The microphone only picks up Paul's voice, not the 36,000 strong audience singing every word. So, all in all - the show was great. Loved every minute, and am so glad I went. Had a great day. A few beers in the Cavern, then a few more beers in the 'Hard Days Night' hotel, and then a few more at the show. But moaners about the setlist do have a point though. If that was your first ever Macca show would you be miffed if he didn't play 'C Moon'? No, it's not a good song. It's hardly a classic either. So, songs like this could easily be replaced by <insert song here>... Also, the story about how he wrote Blackbird he told on Parkinson. Everyone knows that story!!!
But, hey, give the guy a break. He's had plenty on his plate of late, small kid to look after etc - and maybe hasn't had the time to 'reinvent' the show as we are all demanding. All good. -
Listening to Penny Lane online, I heard the audience sing the chorus, and it was fabulous, same with the UTube clip I heard of Let it be. So glad you loved the show

Yes but unlike the oldie acts, Paul and his team made a sustained effort to get on the contemporary playing field with the likes of the iTunes festival etc last year and to a large extent, THEY SUCCEEDED. What needs to happen is to develop a strand of gigs in which the oldies are just flavouring for a new wave of material. I don't know if in the aftermath of Heathergate, he's drifted off what seemed to be his goals which are to write NEW classics but, really, it's time to take some extended time developing this band's NOW repertoire. They're very capable and, I think, hungry to do just that but they need their leader on the right page.

the tours surrounding Flowers in the Dirt and Off the Ground were exactly what you are talking about, the songs were heavily featured. Opened up with Figure of 8. I loved it. Many didn't. Ticket prices were $35.0o. Can't please everyone, and with the number of songs Paul has, he will never please some. with ticket prices the way they are (not just Paul, but everyone). unless you are in a small club, it's not appropriate to play songs the masses haven't heard. either you go, or you don't the shows. There is a basic formula, you know the classics will always be there. there will be changes here and there. But it is what its, and I'm still going. The Kiev show will be very similar as well. Most of the people there will be seeing him for the first time.
