Today Oct. 4th World Animal Day!
-
Today it's World Animal Day! Get involved!!! World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species. Since then it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and is widely celebrated in countries throughout the world. October 4 was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. http://www.worldanimalday.org.uk/events_diary2010.asp

I have one cat. Used to have two but there's only one left. Would love to have many more animals but I live in a tiny appartment so that's no option. I love to travel and my Mom who always looks after my cat is getting older so no more animals.

I have two pets who I love very much. A dog, 9 years old and a one year old cat. I had an 11 year old cat who died last year, I was so upset. I have to plan my day around my pets, it means I can't travel too far unless I know my pets are being looked after. They are like my children! And they act a bit like babies too
Every day is animal day for me too

Sorry to hear about your cat
Had to put my 10 year old cat to sleep last year as well due to kidney failure.

Haha! Same here. I'm glad my Mom lives nearby so she comes over once or twice a day when I'm gone on a trip. My Mom always tells me my cats are worse than children, lol. And she knows what she's talking about

That is so sad about your cat
My 11 year old was asthmatic so I think he did well living such a long good life. He woke me up on his last night with his crying, he was having an attack and I drove him to our emergency vet but he died as soon as we arrived. Now I have a lovely cat who looks a bit like a Bengal. He is a great cat and very affectionate. You are lucky your mum can look after your pets
My dad can look after mine for a day or two but if I am going away for longer I put them in boarding kennels. I know they are hard work and I don't like to put a burden on my dad
Kennels are very expensive though...

I'm still not sure if it's 'easier' if a pet dies naturally or when you have to put it to sleep. Now I got to say my goodbyes. Ugh. I shouldn't talk about this, brings tears to my eyes again. Anyway. No way my Zoë would survive a kennel. She has a history of being abused (that's what the shelter told me) and she likes a quiet house, not a busy kennel with barking dogs. Too bad your Dad can't look after your animals for too long. Yes, kennels are VERY expensive. I'm glad I have my Mom around and a neighbor and a friend as a back-up.

We had guests all weekend. My cat kept hissing at them. She's never behaved so badly around guest, though she really doesn't like strangers. I found out the guest were taking pictures of my house and posting it on facebook to make fun of my mother's taste. (Yeah, while they were still on my house. I threw them out) Now, I know that cat was trying to tell me they were no good people.
