Rescued/Adopted Animals
-
I just watched the Pit Bulls and Parolees Christmas Special on Animal Planet earlier. I had tears in my eyes several times. God Bless New Orleans!
-
^ I love that show. (although I only saw 1/2 of it last night) Also PitBoss with the little people. Bless the people that do the rescuing of the poor animals abandoned... left to fend for themselves. Wallie, I got my Lucy from a foster home. The lady had 10 dogs But I have never tried it myself. Although I would like to. But same as you I think I would fail at fostering & end up keeping more than my fair share.

There is a reason why I said, "God Bless New Orleans"...If you ever get a chance to watch the whole Christmas Special...you'll understand why!

I get so attached so quickly that I'd wind up a cat/dog lady in a few months.

And here I go! I'm tutoring a student whose dog just had puppies. Sigh. Watch me wind up with one! :

What kind of pups? I love puppies. There used to be a pet shop nearby & we'd just go to visit because they had litters of pups in kiddy pools on the floor. Ya know...just big plastic tubs? We'd call it tub-o-pups! Really cute.

They're chihuahua/pug mixes, and I'm only tutoring three more times. If I can last 15 hours, I can remain dog-free.

So that mix would be a chi-ug? A pu-hau?

Emmy Lou Harris/Great Musician was on earlier in the national news. She has an old black dog. She got involved in rescuing black dogs after realizing that they were less adoptable because of their lack of color. They don't photograph well. A bunch of black dog owners recently got together for an annual event where they and all their dogs go for an awareness walk. It was a very neat story...but, I wasn't able to watch it very closely.

I've always heard that black dogs were the last ones to be adopted.

Same thing with black cats. It's sad how in this day and age people still consider them bad luck.

I love black dogs and cats. It is true they are the least likely to be adopted. In the Middle East black dogs are considered unlucky...I read it somewhere, but if I am wrong correct me. All my last few dogs and present dogs have been almost all black or black and tan. I had a beautiful black manx cat once and a beautiful white one. Every time I see a black cat cross my path in a road or wherever, I smile and consider myself to have been given good luck. Lately I have seen lots of black cats cross the street in front of me.

I grew up with a 'black' Black Lab who was born near my 2 year younger brother's birthday. She was half German Shepherd. She died when I was 19 and she was 17...She was a major sweetheart!!! I often go down to a long time friend's house for Sunday dinner. They got a female black cat about 5 years ago. She has a little light white spot on her upper chest and she loves whipped cream. Her name is Sissy. She'll rub up against my shins sometimes when I'm sitting there at the dinner table , then she will stand there with her tail curled up at the end and look up at me until I pet her. When she rubs against my leg, I can literally feel the love coming from her. This is a picture of her when she was young...

My Jessica would have been 15 if she had lived a few more months..she was a border collie crossed with a spaniel (I think) She was completely black with a white paw (my tattoo), a white tip on her tail & a little bit on her chest She was gorgeous & her colour was never an issue..I'm not sure why people discriminate against black cats/ dogs. They are every bit as loving & loyal as other animals Jessica was a rescue. I rescued a rabbit (Del Boy) a few years ago. She was found outside my work colleagues' office in the snow & wouldn't have survived so I brought her home. We had her for 3 weeks, I adored her & was heartbroken when we had to rehome her. She got a wonderful home though Then there was Lennon, my little ginger kitten that was 2 days old when she was found. I bottle-fed her for 2 weeks, until she found a permanent home, but my heart broke & when I finally stopped crying, I went out & got her name tattooed on my shoulder At the moment, both my parents are ill, but when things improve, I'm hoping to get a few pets..will defo adopt, don't agree with buying!!! xxxxx
