Paul, Come To Australia

No clue. Just a gut feeling.

I gave Japan some thought but figured I'll stay here this time.

Remembering Paul's message to us last January, wouldn't it be great to get a tour announcement on this Australia Day?
I've also been wondering how Australia Day might play into any potential announcement. Given the backlash to last year's Australia Day message from Paul, they would be crazy to leave the announcement (IF there is one coming) until after Australia Day. If there is no tour announcement on or before Australia Day, then an Australia Day message would probably be greeted with another round of social media (and press) moaning. But a tour announcement on Australia Day would be the perfect way to counter last year's negative press. This year's negative press can wait until the ticket prices are announced!

I don't care how much the tickets are!!! we've been waiting for nearly 24 years for a tour lets hope Australia Day will be a day to remember as well as a day of pride! Like you Chriska, I have been on this thread since almost the beginning, originally under a different name. Do you remember Belinda , Chriska? I thing about her sometimes and wonder where she is now. Living in hope Chrissie[/url]

Interestingly (or maybe not), I've had no response from Marshall Arts so far. Usually they've been very fast to tell me it's not happening. I am committed to the Japan tour now however so I almost don't want it to come true haha!
Oh dear.
Hey I can live with it either way - 3rd trip to Japan in a year is all good by me!

I do remember her - she is like our master, having started this thread! Years ago now, but I remember we were wondering about her previously. I found a profile that seemed to be her on Facebook and tried getting in touch but didn't get any response as I recall

I came across this in last month's edition of an Australian musical instruments magazine called Mixdown: The jungle drums are beating.....
-
I'm not sure I see the correlation. Is it a business thing?
-
I Got A Feeling. Aussie promoters are going to realise that Paul ain't getting any younger and given the plethora of musical legends who are passing away are only going to push interest in Paul McCartney and I feel some large offers coming Paul's way. It is a monetary decision secondary to the fans lets not sugar coat it as otherwise we would have seen a return sooner than 1993.

Still *crickets*. After Asia in November 2013, May 2014 (cancelled) and May 2015, is Oceania once again missing out the chance with the act "around the corner"? The window in this territory is going to be really tight. I was looking up how much in advance the Stones announced their dates, a very comparable tour, and I remember them being late. The answer is 3.5 months. Springsteen, 4-5 months. Bieber, 5 months. Black Sabbath, 8 months... U2 was very late in 2010, 3 months. I really hope McCartney's team can still pull it off. I consider the chance gone when we don't know anything mid-February. Anyway, another factor, an old article on the Stones' almost doomed 2014 tour: http://www.tonedeaf.com.au/462811/how-much-an-aussie-promoter-actually-makes-from-a-tour-like-the-rolling-stones.htm "The Aussie promoter managed to sell 98 percent of the tickets for the tour, which one would think would result in a decent profit [..]. Think again. [..] still managed to lose over $2 million. The Rolling Stones to this day are notorious for being the toughest negotiators in the business. It's understood by promoters right around the world that you don't tour the Stones so you can buy a new house or car. You're doing it for the prestige." As we know, McCartney's team can be even more tough. We will see.

I remember being very excited when the first Japan dates were announced in 2013. I was certain he'd make an appearance. I was less excited in the subsequent years and am getting more sceptical as the days go by. We're 3 months out from the Japan dates which were announced on New Years day. I thought the dates being rumoured were March/April but early May could be likely as well. Still, Moptops did hint at an announcement on Australia Day. Whether I'm reading too much into that particular message, who knows, but I'm clinging on to any hope there is.

We live in hope. So, what would be the latest we'd expect an announcement by? First week of Feb? If not by then, no hope?

Sadly I was just putting it out there that Australia Day would be the opportune time to announce a visit. Nothing concrete. On the positive side I did get a nice email from Marshall Arts wishing me all the best for 2017.

Ahh, I see. I thought it was a *taps nose wink wink* kind of thing. Is there any context for their email or did it come out of the blue. I mean, I know some of us have been bugging them about it but would they really send out a hint like that?

I'll give an Australia Day announcement until the 27th of January (allowing for time differences).... Not really that hopeful about any announcement beyond that. I might just have to be happy with the fact I got to see him twice. And that's all she wrote.

I got an email from Daw Bell that the new mug collection is now available, that the record-breaking, generation-overlapping, peer-outclassing and press-roaring 'One On One' tour will hit Tokyo, and that the timeless, legendary, Lennon-equaling MacManus/McCartney demos will finally get their release for the Grammy-winning, unanimous positively received Archive Release series on his unforgettable comeback, baffling, flawless ''Flowers In The Dirt' album ;)!

Whenever there's an email exchange with MA there's context.

I think my plan of attack for now is going to be wait and see. There's nothing I can do to hurry along an announcement. If one comes, hallelujah, if not, well I'll give it until February before I bite the bullet and see if I can stretch my budget to go to Japan.

Bruce Springsteen has been on the news taking photos with fans, visiting the gym and beach and soundcheck and words with the press and fans. He plays his 1st of 3 yes 3 shows tonight in Perth, yes Perth. The most isolated city in the world which is often left off many megastars tours in Australia
