A longtime ban by Congress on grading horse meat inspections has been lifted, a news item says, and horses may be killed for human consumption with slaughterhouses going up within a month. Hope this isn't true! PETA should look into this, pronto!

So eating cows, pigs, etc. is o.k. but you can't eat horses? I'm a long-time vegetarian so I eat neither but I don't see why eating horse meat should be banned and eating cow meat not.

I had written elsewhere this horse meat eating issue illustrates that it should be wrong to consume other animal's flesh, too. We're just so used to eating meat where I'm from, especially chicken, must confess I made barbecue chicken just last night. Love chicken livers too sometimes. Seem to fall off the veggie wagon sooner or later, every time I can maintain it for a while, but then backslide. Been thinking about fried oysters too, lately

My wife enjoys horse meat. Personally; I've never tasted it but all I know is that when she brings it home from the Dutch Deli(and its not often) you can smell it as soon as you open the fridge.

In some city's that have an abundance of geese they are culled and used to feed the poor. I believe Chicago did this a number of years ago.

I remember when the ban was in effect. Farmers, who make little money for all the hard work they do basically feeding civilization, complained that they often got an extra $200 from selling horsemeat and needed that money badly. Some blond bimbo barbi-doll celebrity (God, I wish I remebered her name, but like plastic-molded barbies, all those broads look alike) said that farmers would only spend the money on alcohol. I remember getting that barbi broad's address and writing her a letter saying she probably spent all those millions she made on cocaine and food she vomited up. this is an example of some of the stupid crap people say regarding this issue. and if PETA goes to ban something like this, what's next. banning pets? Every vegan acticvist I know believed pets were slavery and refused to have them.

they all do, and you can't tell any of them apart because they all wear the same outfits too.

Those remarks sound like misogynistic putdowns that are anti-female, to be honest, and are potentially offensive although I can sort of see where you're coming from. Those particular women choose to portray a certain version of what they consider sexy. That's their choice. (Misogyny: hatred of women. Misanthropy: hating all fellow humans.) That's freaky that some people actually eat horse meat--I knew horse meat goes into a lot of dog food. (And dogs are said to be consumed in some Asian countries. Is that true?) Pets are "enslaved"--that's ridiculous in my opinion. More often their owners are their slaves, or almost, if the owners are doing the right thing taking care of the animals and loving them.

I'm sorry if my comment offended you. Hate is a very strong word & I will use it to describe things like war & famine. At any rate I like & respect women a lot especially my wife

How is eating dog and horse meat any different to eating any other kind of meat?People in some countries would probably consider eating cows and pigs to be "freaky". When animal sanctuaries are full to bursting with unwanted and abused "pets" you can kind of see the point of many activists regarding keeping them. I personally disagree with breeding animals to be pets. If you want a companion animal go to a shelter and adopt one.

YOu and I understand that about pets owning their owners, especially a spoiled cat, but some of the animal-rights-terrorist that I knew back in the 90s really felt this way. It totally turned me off from PETA until I met some other members who actually had pets and owned animals. (even my ex-husband used to joke about these anti-animal-animal-rights-activist who live in some idea of all animals being feral but it just isnt possible. Some want to work side by side with humans and get along with them. Dogs and Horses who work know what they're doing and they expect their rewards like any worker at the end of the say. So do camels). and 'certain visions of sexy' are shoved down our throat as the end all and be all of sexiness when that isn't the case. and PETA shoves it down our throats too which turns me off. that's why I left. They're like Rachael Rossen in Phillip K Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep: Stamped out one after another like dolls on a factory. Each the same as the last. All looking alike manufactured by the corporation. yes, in Asia they eat both dog and cat. they ate it in England during WWII due to Hitler cutting off all supply ships and they eat dog in Montana on Indian reservations in the States.

On November 18, 2011 President Obama broke a campaign promise and decided to sign into law HR2112 that allows horses to be slaughtered in the USA for human consumption: Here are the real facts about the inhumane ways horses are made to suffer before they are murdered. And the chemicals found in horse meat from the USA that is potentially dangerous to humans. http://www.humanesociety.org/issues/horse_slaughter/facts/facts_horse_slaughter.html#euthanasia

I don't remember which celebrity blond bimbo broad said it, probably Pamela Lee Anderson but I don't really remember, when she was working to get horse meat banned for human consumption in LA, she said, "The farmers would just take that extra money and buy booze." Yep, direct quote. it was when the farmers countered saying they get an extra $200-$400 dollars when they sell horse meat. I was so angry at her comment. I remember writing her and saying, "Well, all you Hollywood celebrities just take that money you make and blow it on coke." That's why I feel a little grumbly about the issue.

reincarnation is hardly a belief 😉 and karma is surely a fact 😉 it is all in the works constantly and continuously.. from their intention to their purchase to their digestion.. what goes around comes around on ALL levels.. the most those of us who care about life can do is try to get them to feel something for the animals (which is called 'bullying' and other terms when it doesn't suit their agenda)
