Board time

Just curious, why does it say "GMT -4 hours" on the bottom right of my pages (I'm set for EST on here) when in actuality I am 5 hours behind GMT? (i.e. it's 6:15 pm where I am and 11:15 pm in London now)
-
actually if you go into your profile you can set to anything you want. I was at -4 GMT as well. I live in the Eastern time zone, and changed it to -5 GMT.

As it is still Summer Time (DST) in Europe, the time for England (until October 26th) is GMT -1 hour. Therefore the difference between London and your time zone is indeed 5 hours.

But then on Nov. 3 we go off daylight savings time and turn the clocks back one hour. So for 8 days there is a 4 hour time difference!

Because we just went off Daylight Savings Time, I realized the time was showing up wrong on the board. Went into profile and changed it to GMT -5 hours (I'm at EST)

How come in order for my correct time (EST) to show up I have to select GMT -4 hours, but isn't London 5 hours ahead of EST right now? (I have a friend I was FB messaging and it was 10 pm where I was and 3 am in London he said)
-
Right now it is 17.48 (British Summer Time or BST) in London. BST is GMT +1 hour. British Summer Time 2016 began on Sunday, March 27 and ends on Sunday, October 30.

That doesn't track. On this forum, when I choose GMT -4hours, it gives me my correct time which right now is almost 2 pm. It is 7 pm in London right now, not 8 pm.

When you wrote this message: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=2923124#2923124 it was 12:24PM EDT. When Liz wrote this message: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=2923131#2923131 it was 12:48PM EDT. Liz wrote that it was 17.48 (24 hour clock) in London which is also 5:48PM BST (British Summer Time), 5 hours ahead of us at 12:48PM EDT (Eastern Daylight Time). 1700 is 5:00PM, known to us as military time. The difference between GMT-4 and GMT+1 is 5 hours. BST (British Summer Time) will be observed in London until 30 October 2016 at 2:00AM. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) will be observed in Atlanta until 6 November 2016 at 2:00AM. I hope this helps. Anita

Thanks Anita! P.S. I know all about military time as I'm a nurse and we chart in military time.
