Pre show inquiry
-
For those who have already attended concerts during this tour, when did the pre-show begin and did it last until Paul came on stage? The tickets for Candlestick say 7PM, is that when the pre-show begins? When would we expect Paul to appear onstage? Is the pre-show a "do not miss" event? Is it a combo of film/music as in 2010?
-
If the ticket says 7, that is when the show is supposed to start, meaning the pre-show. Still, it is hard to predict when he hits the stage, as the pre-show may start 15 or 20 or even 30 minutes in. But there is no guarantee. Your best bet is to be seated by 7. IMO.

According to some of the 'official' media reviews, it appears to be the same scrolling film w/ a remix track of Paul's music

I didn't notice anything new or different in the film, but that doesn't mean there wasn't. That isn't why I went. It's not the main attraction for me.

How strange now I'm wondering when exactly the candlestick concert starts. I've seen 8pm everywhere. I haven't gotten my tickets yet though from crowd surge.

The receipt I received from Crowd Surge states 7PM. I'm assuming that is an arbitrary time, and that the preshow starts sometime after that. I'd like to know when to expect Paul to be onstage. We are driving, so we are trying to work out the logistics of when to leave/when to arrive. I am anticipating almost an hour from the freeway to our seats. I was hoping for an exciting pre-show, but it sounds like it's nothing different from 2010.

can't say for Candlestick, but for the two indoor shows I've been to this year (and most of last year's shows)- ticket time said 8:00 pm and that's when the scrolling film started (except in Chicago last week, where the film started at 7:50). It lasts about 35 minutes and then Paul comes on stage. The preshow film is exactly the same as last year's (my friend's photo is in the same spot
). To be safe, I would assume that 7 pm is the start time for the preshow film and that Paul will hit the stage at 7:35. I personally would rather be an hour early than sitting in traffic and panicking about missing the beginning of the show.

I am not sure anyone, even Paul's stage crew, can guarantee a time when he will go on stage. A lot of things can happen, and there are delays. But an exact time? Not likely.
-
Think of the pre-show as the opening act for most bands. McCartney's concerts in general are a pretty well oiled machine. Whatever the concert time is listed on the ticket, I would expect the pre-show to start within a few minutes of that time and then Paul to appear roughly 1/2 hour later. Is he still using the DJ this year? If so, he is usually on about 1/2 hour before the pre-show starts. RamblinRed

I'm not sure if candlestick does the wristbands for main floor but I would allow a little extra time for that as well since that usually creates a delay with getting to seats.

For those who have gone to these July shows, I have a quick question about the Pre-Show. Are they playing Early Days (audio and/or Video) during the Pre-show music? While Paul hasn't added Early Days to the Setlist at this point, i would love to hear the reaction of the crowd just hearing it during the Preshow. Like many others, I think it is a great song.

The crowd reacted so strong when they play "No More Lonely Nights" during the pre show music. I still don't understand why Paul doesn't play this live. Another song that would be perfect for this year since this year will mark the 30th anniversary of the release of "No More Lonely Nights." Every time you hear the "I can wait another day......" the crowd starts shouting and applauding. But to answer your question, No, "Early Days" isn't played during the pre show music. At Fargo, I held up a sign that said "Early Days" so Paul can see that the fans want it. I did it for US. So hopefully he will take that in and consider it for the August shows.........

I think that would go over much worse than On My Way to Work did. (which I would prefer...or actually Appreciate)

Yes! I want to hear Appreciate too!

I don't know about the US tour, but in South America they played a remix of "Early Days" before the concert, with a drum beat added to the original recording.

oobu24, Were you at the Albany show? From the u-tube clip I saw, it sounded like "On My Way to work" went over quite well. I know you can't always tell from the clip but it sounded like it was well received. Don't get me wrong, I like it when the composer Paul stretches himself on a song like "Appreciate" but for a Beatle Paul heavy crowd, I would think that "Early Days" would go over much better. Early Days to my ear is so Paul. It sounds like it could have been on the White Album. When I first got NEW, Early Days instantly grabbed me as a great song. To this day, it still is my favorite song on the album. Appreciate took longer to grow with me. Nancy, By the time our October shows come around, I hope Paul is playing Appreciate, Early Days and On the Way to work. Hopefully, this little break in the tour till early August will give Paul and Band more time to rehearse for future surprises. I don't thing they had much time to rehearse new material for these July shows since Paul was recovering from that bad virus.

No I was at the Chicago show where it wasn't played. I just heard that it didn't go over well...must have been from someone on this board. I don't care for the Early Days video. It just gave me a big question mark. Great film but not for me for Paul. I don't associate the Beatles with the south.
Go figure. They were more copying the Supremes, Temptations, Smokey Robinson to name a few. More motown. Clapton was more of the blues singer...anyway I am getting way off topic & there is a thread for Early Days. BUT he has done a video for Appreciate too & I'd love to see that as a backdrop with him singing it.
