can we have a 'chat room' at pm.com?

can a 'chat room' be added here, for boardies to have private chats, several at a time? would be fun, wouldn't it? just sayin' a movie star site i'm a member of features a chat room. sometimes various members set a designated date and time to go in there and 'talk.' it's cute & cool
i guess macca could afford to add one

We used to have several live chat threads here when members did just that, members would come and log in at a particular time and post back and forward in real time, bouncing thoughts and ideas around. Those particular members have moved on and those particular topics don't get the same level of activity anymore, but there's no obstacle to other similar topics rising again should a group of members feel inclined. However this php message board - and Paul's own site - doesn't have the interactive chat room software for the type of chat room hosted elsewhere where messages are transient and lost to the ether soon after being posted so if you use a thread here in this manner consider that your thoughts and comments will remain available long afterwards - and available to others, not in your "group" to read. On previous occasions, members here so inclined have posted links into live chat rooms hosted elsewhere by MSN or other providers and met up on-line in a similar manner. That remains a option. However looking around here, I see that there are many occasions when a small group does settle down - usually within a topical thread such as a concert thread - and post back and forward in real time for a period. One particular advantage of message board threads over live chat rooms is that message board threads facilitate time-delayed conversations embracing fans world-wide, we've had vigorous debates between members from the far east to the far west each posting at an appropriate time to themselves where the debate has flowed freely as the posts remain available. Chat rooms do require everybody to be time synchronised meaning some would need to be at their PCs at very unnatural hours to be part of the chat. That can be a disadvantage to the idea. Obviously, another of my own personal concerns - and probably that also of my colleagues - would be that any chat room, provided here in Paul's name on his site, would have to run unmoderated for inappropriate content. The notion has been floated before, but the idea has never been accepted and implemented. Martin

Question! then can you find a Soft-wear program to implament here? you see if we had a "LIVE AUDIO CHAT" we could entertain the fans here as we typed! Audition or even send in songs? so Paul could use them? you know, like Playing my piano here, singing, and just having fun with other like minded individuals! I would somehow find a way to Pay for the security too. if you had to charge for it. cause when I would entertain on live internet before, their would be indivduals who would not be cool! so there would have to be some security measures put into place. if I knew how to do that "High Tech Stuff" I would do it myself. and have my own site thingy. but I am old fashioned, and like talking face to face with people with like minds such as I! how about all of the rest of you? would you luv it too??
