Sounds like a return of "Robo." The robot that Wings had on stage in '79 for "Goodnight Tonight." (if I'm remembering correctly)

Is this especially for Japan, perhaps? The Japanese love of robots and all things robotic is all over tech news here on a regular basis. Of course we already have Titan doing the circuit so Paul already has a benchmark. A "proper" fully automatic machine would need a huge plus factor over the ground Titan has commercially already

No joke! That story above quotes from the Rolling Stone interview: He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I got this little vision... of me in front of a forest in a checked shirt... and right next to me with his arm around me, was a robot, this very shiny guy. So I'm working with the idea... of having this big guy onstage. I like the idea that I've got a big mate who's a robot. "This idea has to do with newness. I'm the outdoorsman, sort of a country guy, living out in the woods, but I have this friend, and he's the modern world. In fact, he's the future." However the article in the link is missing this part from the RS interview: To design the robot, McCartney commissioned the same firm that made the elaborate puppets for the stage version of War Horse. "It's a highly speculative idea," he says. "Why would you build a robot? Just because you imagined a picture of yourself with one? But that's what you do: You have ideas and you try to bring them to fruition. You have an idea for a song and you try to bring it through." I've seen War Horse on stage, and those "puppets" (life-sized horses) were AMAZING. Japanese fans are in for a treat if Paul really does add this...!

I read that too, but still I can't believe this happening. If so, I hope it will be only for Japan. As for me I prefer a simple stage with a big screen behind and that's it.

I agree. Who the hell wants to see McCartney on stage with a robot?? Robots on stage...elevated platforms above the audience...lasers...thousands of LED screens...WTF??? Paul, will you please just play your songs on a clean stage with great sound, lights, and screens on the side of the stage?? You don't need this nonsense. You are Paul McCartney! People just want to see and hear you! :

Or a stoner fantasy that he can make real. It doesn't surprise me. Paul's always liked sci fi stuff

Oh, I do, too; I am so over special effects (and that includes all those flashpots during Live and Let Die! and I don't even like having screens as background for Paul. But if the robot does get created and used on stage, and if it is done masterfully, then it will be cool to see.

You are, although "Robbo" was pretty small, only about knee-high. He would trundle on stage, Paul would "introduce" him, then give him a fake kick to get him started with the intro for the song.
