The Search Engine is Not So Bad
-
Note that if you try to find an entry, say for "Rave On Buddy Holly" like I did, the Search returns many threads, but with no direct links in any results to the pages containing the exact reference. I hope that search results with direct links to the pages containing the search term used, and maybe a caption from each page containing the search term used. may someday in the future be implemented. As an example, please see: http://worldofkj.com/forum/search.php?sid=66ea3f03416443345702629685c7fe8b Try searching here for "Star Wars" (in quotes)...okay, the results can be wonky, but this can be determined by reading the captions instead of by sifting through many, many pages which may turn up nada. Thank you for your time and your hard work.

That's a terrific search engine at worldofkj.com

Hi, Remember to set the "Display results as: Posts Topics" to "Posts" to see specific post results. With that option selected you will be able to read a sample of - or the whole post - found with your search words highlighted without having to open the threads themselves. The link to the exact post is found in the results pages at the top right of the search entry: The top line of each result read as follows:
Forum: THE BROADCAST Posted: 25-07-2011 08:43 PM Subject: Changes to the website
In that example "Changes to the web-site" - highlighted in red - is a direct link to the exact post carrying the word you are searching. Hope this helps. The search engine carries other options to reduce the number of results returned such as selecting the forum - ie Yesterday forum for Beatles related posts. As always choose a unique key word or couple of words rather than a full phrase to reduce the numbers of results returned, and avoid common words such as: and, if, but, the etc. As to further modifications, this particular php bulletin board is due to be replaced very shortly as this message board is integrated into the upcoming improved web-site so no further upgrades are being planned. (PS that intergration will preserve all the topics and content of this message board, nothing should be lost in the transfer) Let's see what facilities are offered then. Martin

I have been getting a message lately that says...cannot perform another search so soon...or something like that. If I just go back to previous page. Now come on...I cannot be faster than a computer.
: I agree the search function here is lacking.

The php bulletin software has a built in deliberate delay to confound "Flood" searches and posts. When you flip back, say to your "find all posts" results, you are not returning to a cached page on your PC, you are indeed resubmitting the search request - hence the message seen. It is only a matter of a few seconds and should only slightly interefere with most members activity usually where they've changed their mind about the spelling of a search term and flip back quick to change that without examining the results produced. There is also a delay in submitting posts which is ony usually triggered when flipping back to correct a typo, again to confound misuse of the message board. So it is deliberate, but with genuine positive reasons. Martin

Ah, that's it.
ops: I looked and looked and looked at The Results Page and yet did not catch the control on The Search Query Page. Makes it different! Thank you. EDIT: Can that control be set at the server end to "Post" by default? And is there a similar control somewhere for "View Your Posts" so that the page opens your last post right where you left off?

I find I get much better results by Googling the term I want, along with the word maccaboard.
