Another short backstage fragment: http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/boulevard/entertainment/robert-schudt-god-paul-mccartney-de-hand-op-pinkpop And another review from Belgium, **** by Humo: http://www.humo.be/festivalitis/365525/paul-mccartney-pinkpop-2016 "And it was true, McCartney wasn't in great vocal shape. But in fact that didn't bother: with the same charismatic leniency as how you would forgive a grandfather who drank a few too many wines the night before, you also tolerate the hoarse voice of the Beatle. That was what was so phenomenal about Saturday evening: the by tens of thousands shared knowledge that nothing would go wrong. That the happiness would keep on going, in rudely large doses, 33 songs long. For a moment your live had an Instagram-filter"

I get rather tired by the discussions about Paul's voice. It's no news and we know it's true that there are embarrassing moments. But it was a good show and we had a great time. What did strike us was that Paul didn't seem as eager and fresh as usual. Bored would be too much to say....maybe: not in a good mood. The thing he said about people who try to play Blackbird on guitar was not nice. I can't understand why he said it.

Exactly Anny, the 70,000 at Pinkpop had a fab time. One big singalong party. Man, what a FUN we had on Sunday and what a FUN Pinkpop had. And that is what concerts are about, right ? It's NOT about what reviewers say or a"famous DJ" or pessimists who were NOT there. I don't let them spoil my party by their constant negativity. They can have their opinion, even if they were absent. They can repeat about "the voice" over and over again and the "poor" sales but I can't see what purpose that serves. Pinkpop was sold out, the place was FULL with people. The thing about Blackbird is that Paul plays the song in different positions than all tabs on the internet. Thus, most people tend to slide up and down the neck of the guitar to reach the right chords for picking. Paul moves much less and fingers the chords in different, but more efficient positions at the neck. He said before that everybody plays it wrong, e.g. during the 2012 tour. It's a "joke" rather than a judgement (and the people laughed.....). My brother once shouted back " no you do it wrong", to which Paul of course replied " I wrote it......". Check youtube for amateur versions of the song and you must admit that nobody can imitate the ledt hand Macca fingerpicking style to perfection.

An encouragement would have been kind.

By the way, I loved In Spite of All the Danger. It went really well in the program.

same than in Madrid 12 days ago, Paul seems unhappy, or maybe he's angry. I can't imagine why but sometimes he seems upset.

Yes, unhappy is the word that also came to my mind. Maybe he is just tired, it's getting a bit too much for him. What with all the travelling and so on. Or he misses his family....he's putting on a brave face, but perhaps he's dreaming of sitting in his backgarden and playing with his daughter and grandchildren...

But why add 2 songs then (Ram on and Give peace a chance were not planned) ? GPAC was a crowd pleaser possibly, Ram on was unknown to most in the audience probably. I thought he was quite spontaneous at Pinkpop and concentrated. He did less talking (incl less talking in the language of the country) and there was less "joking" in between and less stories, possibly to be able to play more songs (only 5 songs less in a concert that was 30 minutes shorter). But it is hard to look in someone else's head.......

Perhaps Nancy was working in New York with her company?

No, Nancy was present. He said that before he started singing My Valentine.

I can hardly call Ram On and GPAC adding two songs. Ram On is so insignificantly tiny and GPAC is okay, but always too short to be an entire song. You are right about the less 'joking' and fewer stories.

                                            Anny Rock:

I get rather tired by the discussions about Paul's voice. It's no news and we know it's true that there are embarrassing moments. But it was a good show and we had a great time. What did strike us was that Paul didn't seem as eager and fresh as usual. Bored would be too much to say....maybe: not in a good mood. The thing he said about people who try to play Blackbird on guitar was not nice. I can't understand why he said it.

same than in Madrid 12 days ago, Paul seems unhappy, or maybe he's angry.

So the time has come where he just want to "retire from his boring job"? I don't know. Maybe it's something about his personal life. And I don't want to gossip about Paul's life. But I'm intrigued in knowing if it's something about the shows and the music... It seems like if Paul is not Paul if he is at the stage and unhappy.
