Kayak: Royal Bed Bouncer (1975)
-
This is an older band from Denmark who, except for a couple of dates in the U.K., never got out of Denmark. Not much. They did play once with ELO in concert. I am in Los Angeles. I heard the title track once on the radio (which is about all the attention they got in L.A.), and I bought the album as an import at Tower Records Hollywood. They are contemporaries of Yes and they do sound a bit like Supertramp. However, their songs tend to hold their own. They also have very witty lyrics from time to time. "Royal Bed Bouncer" predates the punk/new wave rock sounds of the late 70's-early 80's. "My Heart Never Changed" is a classy slow ballad. "If This is Your Welcome" is a very hooky rock ballad And, in spite of the apparent "hammy" dramatic intro, please give "Chance of a Lifetime" a listen. It works out very well.
