"High All The Time" Lyrics Offensive

Can hardly endure the recent hit "High All the Time" lyrics--about going to "sex clubs," throwing up Twinkies in the bathtub after Twinkie binges, she has to be stoned all the time to get over some guy, etc. What kind of message does this song send impressionable youth--also some of "Shake it Up" by Swift sounds nauseating (to me) and what does that phrase/song title "All About the Base" mean? It's about "bringing booty back," is she referring to her body as "the base"? She sounds like a black girl singer but she's white, which was surprising. The "Stay With Me" song by Sam Mitchell is alright...very soulful, his voice recalls a toned-down Joe Cocker. Meaty. That recent ditty "Angel in Bluejeans" rubs me the wrong way until it goes all blue grassy. An example of that "new" type of folksy "root music." What about the corny reggae-style song (sort of reggae, the male singer sounds all bluesy and soulful) where the guy is begging his girlfriend's daddy for her hand in marriage. It's a bit odd and old-fashioned, its subject matter. He sounds like a big crybaby. These songs (some of them) already starting to go out of rotation. Pop music popularity is transitory, the various hits. Some seem to wear out their welcome big time before mercifully vanishing. I just read that Madonna's six new songs have already fallen out of the top ten or so of I-Tunes, and she's shocked and dismayed. That newish song that goes "Am I wrong/ for thinking we could be something real/yeah yeah yeah yeah" was alright the first 30 times you hear it. After that, made me just a bit nauseated, to hear it yet again.

reminds me, somebody made a prank phone call to us, last night--said nothing, heard some mysterious shuffling sounds and in the background a rap or hip hop song, had a bit of cussing and my sister had jumped on the phone and gave a short livid diatribe "don't you know the reason for the season--shameful to listen to songs with curse words especially at this time" (paraphrased) and I told the mystery caller "that was my sister, not me" implying I was fine with it, LOL, I also commented "this must be from a UFO"--next time, play us better sounding music, alright? (laughs)

It's "All About That Bass" not base, 'bout that bass, no treble'. As is "bass" is the "bottom." It's about her having a big booty and saying it's OK. That's all it's about. Stupidest song ever! I can't for a second believe it's been nominated for Song of the Year.

Hi SusyLuvsPaul! How are you? I think we should change the title of your thread to FAMOUS DRUG ADDICTION SONGS! Its obvious that the song "High All The Time" is about sex and twinkie addiction! I must confess, I have never heard of twinkie addiction, that's a new one. I'm surprised that no one (That I know of) has written or recorded a song about smoking alcohol!

Randy, you've made me even more disturbed over that "High all the Time" song's lyrics, they are disturbing on many levels. "Bringing Booty Back" LOL, her voice really lilts and twirls in a very retro 20's or 3o's way when she sings that line...she sounds black but she's white. It's a stupid song, agreed, doesn't have Bob Dylan-like lyrics...not very profound and intellectual

You can be owned by society, Or you can focus on living. High All the Time is about a dependent girl, obviously with a lousy domestic life, who has to get away by the kindness of strangers, and likely a player. Else, he would be there for her. Most of the modern music is some kind of business, huh? Singing about themselves to no one, and often about their crotch problems. I know I'm not doing it. I'm not going there. And "the parties" referred to in the songs were kaput over a week ago with somebody else. Very hard to put myself as a listener in those places. The songs of my generation were about getting there, and if you cared to. Not about how it went for somebody else so much. But these songs are like watching old Jerry Springer. They may crash in the market, but the train wrecks that they represent are guaranteed a minimum of 75 Million views on YouTube, and YouTube pays money for high views. Whether that's enough money, I don't know, but some guy who had over 300,000 YouTube views was able to give his parents $250,000 out of his YouTube check.

Darn the luck, had to hear "High All the Time" again several times on the car radio and it's influenced me for the worst, I fear...'cause lately I thought "I'd like to go on a semi-hunger strike protesting all the murders, and drink screwdrivers and whiskey sours" after refraining from alcohol for ages, a very long time, and having a horror of anorexia. When you haven't gotten drunk in so long you start to wonder about it...how it feels. I sort of blame this awful song "High All The Time" LOL. Its tune is a bit catchy. Too bad it doesn't have different lyrics that are more poetic and inspirational.

Actually, a lot of recent radio fare sounds crappy compared to the "New" album. Although I did hear a few good-sounding ones on the car radio last night
